About Marvell

Marvell’s semiconductor solutions are the essential building blocks of the data infrastructure that connects our world. Across enterprise, cloud and AI, and carrier architectures, our innovative technology is enabling new possibilities.

At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. For those looking to make their mark on purposeful and enduring innovation, above and beyond fleeting trends, Marvell is a place to thrive, learn, and lead.

Your Team, Your Impact

Optics
The Optics team builds highly integrated component platforms with high speed Silicon photonics, transmit and receive amplifiers, controller ASIC’s with Marvell DSP’s. These components are made operational with a highly functional embedded firmware. The team is responsible for design, verification, and validation of these integrated high speed optical components. The team performs system level testing under various operating conditions, and validates the performance of the hardware, firmware and control loops. An engineer in this team will be involved in a full product lifecycle and will carry new products from inception all the way to NPI.

What You Can Expect

What you will do?

  • In this role you will design mechanical, thermal, and packaging integration for new high speed fiber optic design prototypes and sustaining products. This role requires expertise in 3D modeling, thermal design, substrate design, and die packaging processes.

  • As a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design and collaborate with cross-functional teams within Marvell to create industry-leading optical solutions.

  • Design mechanical, thermal, and packaging integration for fiber optic transceiver design assembly prototypes and sustaining products.

  • Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and 2D drawings using Solidworks, Pro-E, and/or Autocad.

  • Develop and model thermal design solutions for component and assembly level cooling of thermally sensitive optoelectronic device.

  • Coordinate multiple design paths during development phases, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and optical teams.

  • Coordinate substrate design, collaborating with engineering teams and vendors for design layout, simulations, and prototypes.

  • Support die packaging processes such as Flip Chip attach and Ball Grid Array attach.

  • Design tooling fixtures, fan shrouds, cooling shrouds, and heat sink fixtures for prototype design verification testing (DVT).

  • Coordinate with Contract Manufacturers for optoelectronic assembly processes, drafting build request documents, and validating process steps.

  • Conduct thorough engineering analysis, simulations, and tests to validate and optimize designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

  • Conduct mechanical design reviews, DFM, and DFA. Collaborate with reliability teams on product improvement and DFMEA.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate would need:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 5+ years of related professional experience in Opto-Mechanical field.

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, preferably in optical transceiver design.

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling tools: Solidworks, EPDM, Circuitworks, Visualization.

  • Expert in thermal analysis tools: FloTHERM, Solidworks Simulation, ANSYS.

  • Extensive experience with layout tools: Klayout (DXF, GDS), Allegro PCB viewer

  • Experience with die packaging processes.

  • Strong analytical skills, capable of conducting engineering analysis and simulations to validate design concepts.

  • Familiarity with optical fiber and fiber coupling

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to optoelectronic design and reliability.
