Vinted

Staff Engineer, Marketplace Payments (Eligible for Limited-time Relocation Bonus)

Kaunas, Lithuania Full Time

Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.

Information about the position

Join our dynamic team within the Marketplace Payments domain and become a pivotal technical leader, shaping our strategic direction and driving innovative solutions for one of Vinted’s most critical business units. As we expand our technical leadership, you will play a key role in supporting the increasing complexity of our payments ecosystem, ensuring a unified technical vision while providing dedicated architectural support.

In this role, you will report directly to the Business Unit (BU) Director of Engineering while being embedded within the Marketplace Payments leadership team. This matrix model allows you to maintain a high-level view of the entire payments puzzle, preventing "architectural drift" and ensuring that our technical choices across the BU reinforce one another. You will be an experienced, proactive, and pragmatic leader who is eager to prove themselves and change our platform for the better.

In this role, you'll have the chance to work with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Go, MySQL (Vitess), Elasticsearch, Kafka, Kubernetes, Temporal and more. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated leader passionate about pushing technical boundaries in a collaborative and high-stakes environment.

In this position, you’ll

  • Work closely with BU and domain leadership, drive co-creation of the domain's engineering strategy and technical roadmap, and ensure that our technology strategy aligns with the product vision.
  • Evolve payments architecture for high-volume transaction handling by enabling teams to design self-healing, regularly (auto) tested services.
  • Help teams reduce technical debt to increase reliability and scalability, ensuring a modularized architecture and the adoption of modern tools like Go and Temporal.
  • Ensure the architecture supports rapid experimentation and the seamless rollout of new payments features
  • Partner with shared BU teams (Infosec, Platform, and Tech Support) and Vinted Pay domain to build compatible infrastructure and maintain a "secure by design" posture.
  • Work closely with engineers to set the best practices and understand the biggest pain-points; help solve them.
  • Collaborate with other domains on overarching deliverables and shared technical responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews.

About you

  • You have a proven track record as a technical engineering leader (Staff/Principal equivalent), having successfully defined, led, and delivered major, company-wide technical initiatives.
  • You are a flexible leader who can fluidly balance your impact across the four archetypes of Staff Engineering, applying the right approach based on a pragmatic assessment of the domain’s needs together with the Director of Engineering.
  • You can effectively communicate complex technical goals to both internal and external audiences in spoken and written English.
  • You can drive a clear architectural vision by collaborating and iterating on software design, specifically for high-scale, distributed systems.
  • You are willing to take on new challenges and constantly grow as an engineer and leader.
  • You have experience with high-scale systems and are willing to work with our current technical stack - Ruby on Rails, Go, MySQL, Temporal and more. While we don't expect you to know all of them beforehand, you are eager to grow and adapt and learn.
  • It’s a benefit if you have experience building and maintaining systems at a massive scale (e.g., handling 2+ million requests per minute), with deep knowledge of observability tools (Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus) and a passion for introducing new practices.
  • You have good experience of async systems and eventual consistency at the same time being a pragmatist rather than purist
