Job Description
About the job
At Arctic Wolf, we're not just navigating the cybersecurity landscape - we're redefining it. Our global team of dedicated Pack members is driving innovation
and setting new industry standards every day. Our impact speaks for itself: we've earned recognition on the Forbes Cloud 100, CNBC Disruptor 50,
Fortune Future 50, and Fortune Cyber 60 lists, and we recently took home the 2024 CRN Products of the Year award. We’re proud to be named a
Leader in the IDC MarketScape for Worldwide Managed Detection and Response Services and earning a Customers' Choice distinction from Gartner
Peer Insights. Our Aurora Platform also received CRN’s Products of the Year award in the inaugural Security Operations Platform category. Join a
company that’s not only leading, but also shaping, the future of security operations.
Our mission is simple: End Cyber Risk. We’re looking for a Staff Developer to be part of making that happen.
About the Role
As a Staff Developer for Arctic Wolf’s Data Platform, you will work on shaping and evolving the systems that enable large-scale storage and rapid
searching of cybersecurity data. This telemetry data is collected from customers by leveraging endpoint, network, and cloud data sources both
inside and outside our customers’ networks. Our team designs, builds, and manages large-scale distributed systems that empower both customers and
internal teams to better understand and improve security posture.
You will operate at the intersection of big data, distributed computing, cloud technologies, and infrastructure as code. Our existing stacks include both
custom-built and open source components written in Python, Go, or Java, deployed within Amazon Web Services. We leverage Kubernetes and other
containerized platforms. Major components include Kafka, Elasticsearch, Databricks, and Spark, along with additional custom application services
developed in-house.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership across initiatives, influence architectural direction, and ensure our platform scales reliably and sustainably
as the business grows.
Responsibilities Include:
Lead the architecture, design, and end-to-end delivery of complex, high-impact data platform initiatives, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term sustainability
Drive cross-team technical direction by influencing architectural decisions, establishing engineering best practices, and developing reusable frameworks and design patterns
Identify and resolve systemic technical challenges and technical debt, improving operational excellence across reliability, observability, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure
Mentor and elevate engineers across teams through design reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and leadership in incident reviews and post-mortems
Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to align platform investments with business objectives and long-term strategic goals
We value a culture of sharing, so every team has the opportunity to share their work with the entire department during our monthly R&D Demos. Once a
year we hold a department-wide Hackathon, teaming up across all R&D teams over four days to collaborate and build cool ideas outside the normal project
scope. While innovation and experimentation is the focus, some of these ideas do make it into our products.
About You
You’re an experienced technical leader who enjoys solving complex, ambiguous technical challenges with little to no guidance. You care deeply about
writing quality, maintainable code and designing systems that scale. Working collaboratively in cross-functional teams is your strength, and colleagues look
to you for guidance on system design, architectural decisions, and software development best practices.
You should have extensive work experience in the following areas:
8+ years of experience working on backend or distributed systems
Strong experience designing and operating large-scale systems in the big data space
Relevant experience developing software in Python, Go, Java, or other object-oriented languages
Deep understanding of distributed systems, system design, and scalable data architectures
Comprehensive experience integrating with RESTful APIs and building service-oriented systems
Experience with SQL, Elasticsearch DSL, or similar query languages
Strong experience working with message queue systems such as Amazon SQS, Kafka, or others
Experience with columnar and/or time-series databases (e.g. Databricks, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, etc)
Experience with Amazon Web Services and cloud-native architectures
Strong understanding of Kubernetes and containerized environments
Ability to work cohesively across multiple teams and influence technical direction beyond a single codebase
Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards
Ability, comfort, and interest in evaluating and adopting new technologies and frameworks
In addition, you have proven leadership experience from previous projects, regardless of title held. You have the ability to perform programming tasks and
large engineering projects with Independence and expertise. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring other staff members and will regularly leadtechnical projects. You have a high level of mastery over software development best practices and building reusable design patterns.
