Staff Counsel

The automotive markets Holman serves include fleet management and leasing; vehicle fabrication and upfitting; component manufacturing and productivity solutions; powertrain distribution and logistics services; commercial and personal insurance and risk management; and retail automotive sales as one of the largest privately owned dealership groups in the United States.

Principal Purpose of Position:

  • Support and assist more senior Holman lawyers, in partnering with one or more Holman business units, such as Holman Fleet or function groups, such as Procurement (each a “Business Unit” or “BU”).
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and amendments with clients, suppliers, and other business partners.
  • Field incoming support requests from Business Unit functions related to day-to-day operations, including contract inquiries, client or supplier disputes, collections matters, routine and non-standard document preparation, and the like. 
  • Research and analyze law for the preparation of legal memoranda.
  • Support drafting, revision, and maintenance of standard contract templates, including development of new templates for newly created service programs. 
  • Support investigations, administrative proceedings, and litigation matters, under supervision of more senior Holman lawyers. Coordinate with outside counsel and other participants (internal, e.g., Holman Risk, or external, e.g., consulting experts) as directed. 
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

 Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing in at least one state. (If not admitted in NJ secure Mandatory NJ In-house License.)
  • Minimum 3 years’ work experience as a lawyer, whether in a law firm or in-house legal department, handling contract drafting and review.
  • Proficient in various desktop tools including MS Office Programs (i.e., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

 Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Law school course work in any of Bankruptcy / Secured Transactions, Real Estate, and Data Privacy are a plus
  • Additional education, certifications, or other distinctions are a plus.

Outputs:

  • Gain competent understanding of the business of the applicable BU’s to which the Staff Counsel is assigned and build relationships across those entities.
  • Provide practical advice, responding to the needs of the Company, enabling Company results.
  • Execute on contracting processes, on a timely basis, addressing risk, and enabling growth.
  • Research and analyze law and legal issues, and brief Company on same.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned by Assistant General Counsel or other leadership in direct leadership chain.

Regular Full-Time

Temporary or Part-Time

In geographic areas with statutory paid sick leave, part-time and temporary employees will receive a paid sick leave benefit that meets the mandated requirements.

Pay:

We offer competitive wages that are commensurate with job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and geographic location, starting in the range of $105,050.00 - $149,700.00 USD annually for full time employees. The annual compensation range is comprised of base pay earnings.
