The Workers Compensation Staff Attorney provides legal defense to policyholders and supports NJM’s Workers Compensation Claims Department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Protect the interests of NJM policyholders in litigated workers’ compensation matters through the point of settlement or decision
- Work with staff in the preparation of pleadings, motions, briefs, and other documents
- Provide case status updates, recommendations, and legal guidance to policyholders and Workers’ Compensation Claims staff
- Work collaboratively with other enterprise stakeholders in the defense of Workers’ Compensation claims
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Strong negotiation, communication and writing skills
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to customer service
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Juris Doctor degree
- License to practice law in the state of New Jersey
Preferred Qualifications:
- Trial or arbitration experience
- Judicial clerkship experience
- Workers’ Compensation experience, including multiple jurisdictions
- 0-3 years of experience
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
Pay Range: $100,226-$113,404
