Summary of Duties
As an Accountant 1, you will:
This role applies standard accounting principles to align individual transaction decisions with the broader accounting goals of the agency or state. It involves tasks of standard complexity, like modifying straightforward accounting systems or subsystems. Examining accounts for reconciliation, as well as for basic reporting and interpretation of accounting records. Employees in this position are tasked with managing standard operations of accounting systems, maintaining accounting structures, overseeing internal controls, and handling financial reporting of limited complexity. They may also offer guidance to accounting technicians.
Accounting Functions:
Analyze various accounting transactions to determine and initiate the corresponding entries.
Reconcile accounts, initiate corrections, and make adjusting entries.
Interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and fiscal policies and procedures.
Reporting and Analysis:
Apply accounting theory to design, produce, and reconcile financial reports, including individual fund balance sheets and operating statements for a select number of funds, along with a range of other financial statements and reports.
Prepare a range of agency financial reports, including expenditure, revenue, and budget status. Gather data for the statewide financial report. Prepare sections of the required annual financial statements, along with the notes and disclosures.
Conduct regular analysis of the agency's fiscal data. Develop cash forecasts, revenue estimates, and expenditure projections for strategic planning.
Monitor budget balances and bring issues or propose corrective action to management.
Estimating, maintaining, and reviewing financial information for various programs or accounting funds.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate; OR
A bachelor’s degree in accounting; OR
Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university; OR
32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours in Accounting from an accredited institution AND two years of technical, para- professional accounting experience to include: a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts and account relationships resulting in accounting entries.

Working Conditions
This is a non-supervisory position in a typical office environment. Normal office hours. Hybrid work will be considered in filling this position. During the training period, you will be required to be in the Salem office 5 days per week.
