Are you ready to architect the next generation of unmanned aerial systems? We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to serve as a technical cornerstone for the Flexrotor platform. Meet the Team:
The Airbus Helicopters Flexrotor Program offers one of the most sophisticated small tactical unmanned aerial systems (STUAS) with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). It can be used day or night by US and allied forces for a diverse range of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) on land and at sea.

Your Challenges:

System Architecture & Modeling: 40%

  • Gather system needs, define architecture, and derive subsystem requirements and acceptance criteria.

  • Generate design specifications and associated models for systems.

  • Perform a range of system model development, analysis, or review tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Define and architect the software foundation for simulators, ensuring the development team can produce the required software components.

  • Develop Systems Models from derived customer requirements and define the System Level design following MBSE using SysML or UML.

  • Experience in modelling to capture the system design for missions, functions, and interfaces.

  • Contribute to system designs, including capturing the role of software and ensuring these will become a working system.

Validation, Documentation & Collaboration: 35%

  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.

  • Support validation, verification, acceptance, and certification activities.

  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.

  • Prepare and conduct design reviews with internal and external customers.

  • Collaborate with the Ground Systems team to ensure user requirements are fully captured and traced.

  • Work with development teams to share the high-level architecture.

Optimization, Leadership & Strategy: 25%

  • May lead and direct the work of other engineers and stakeholders while acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME).

  • Act as a Lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a model or section of an analysis or design review.

  • Provide architectural guidance during the entire project lifecycle.

  • Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

  • Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in system engineering.

  • Conduct trade-off studies and evaluate optimizations, new technologies, and tools.

  • Drive the ramp-up of Flexrotor with knowledge of software and hardware solutions within a product environment.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Posses a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or an appropriate discipline from an accredited educational institution.

  • Eight (8) + years of experience in systems engineering, with specific experience in leadership or mentoring.

  • Systems engineering fundamentals: requirements development, system architecture, and lifecycle management.

  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using SysML/UML for mission, functional, and interface modeling.

  • Software-intensive system architectures, including simulator foundations and software–hardware integration.

  • Strong working knowledge of MBSE tools (SysML or UML).

  • Experience defining software foundations for simulators or complex product environments.

  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, G-suite, JIRA/Confluence.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in the aerospace and defense industry, specifically with UAS/UAV systems.

  • Experience with MagicDraw/Cameo Systems Modeler.

  • Project/Program Management Certification

Travel Required:

  • Up to 20% Domestic and International

Citizenship:

  • US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder or person covered under our existing ITAR license)

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite or remote: 80% Onsite.

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings daily.

  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms daily.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications daily.

  • Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts daily.

  • Carrying/Lifting: able to carry/lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 15lbs daily.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools occasionally.

  • Sitting/Standing/Walking/Squatting: able to sit for long periods of time, stand for discussions, walk through office and production areas (including uneven surfaces), and squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items occasionally.

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice, monthly.

  • Walking: Include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents, able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces, daily.

Annual salary range based on the required profile: $125k - $200k  Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
