Position Summary
The North America Services Business (NASB) develops services across Samsung’s mobile, digital, and TV ecosystems. Our mission is to inspire and engage users with interactive and imaginative experiences.
The Senior Strategist for Home & Platform will report to the Head of VD Product, Home/Platform and Art (NASB) and is responsible for owning product strategy, new business opportunity exploration, and strategic projects, while leading cross-functionally to make data-informed decisions and influence throughout the organization to drive execution on strategic proposals. This role combines establishing first-principled product direction with business strategy to grow the value proposition of our offer to users and grow the business in velocity and acceleration. This position requires a strong product and strategy professional who will provide strategic direction and project management aimed at improving user engagement, personalization, user value proposition, business return, monetization, etc.
Working with Product, Marketing, BD, Engineering, Design, Data and Operations across US and Korea, you will focus on growth of the service through both consumer-facing (new features, new product lines, UX, etc) and back-end (CMS, portal improvements, etc) initiatives. This role involves a combination of launching new services and features, and growing established businesses. An ownership of the revenue machine of the product will be important, which includes understanding what levers of this product/business move revenue, tracking how we produce revenue today, and what plans we can put in place to grow revenue. An ideal candidate will be able to develop frameworks to facilitate decision-making, synthesize complex information and perspectives into a singular structure and develop proposals and communicate the proposal strategically to maximize the chances of alignment and execution.
Role and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Establish a foundation strategy for the Home & Platform, anchoring on core human truths to establish timeless pillars that will serve as lasting cornerstones of product decision making
- Identify strategic gaps/needs across the Home & Platform product/business world and identify prioritized list of areas to address
- Build perspectives around critical needs that root in first principles and are meant to align multiple stakeholders across the organization to drive forward the change proposed
- Utilize a variety of high quality and credible sources to pull insights and use them to support proposals (e.g. expert interviews, user research, desk research, research reports)
- Utilize experience with service product management and strategy development within large corporations to ensure value delivery to user and execution through the organization.
- Maintain and manage a prioritized project backlog based on business goals, market needs, and user feedback.
- Foster a culture of experimentation to enhance recommendation algorithms and user experiences.
- Stay informed about the latest trends in content recommendation technologies and machine learning within the streaming industry.
- Own the revenue projections and opportunities for the Home & Platform
- Determine product/business growth opportunities, whether that be new features or entirely new product lines, or new distribution channels, or new business models
- Collaborate with all cross-functions to grow the service to bring a new product or features to life on time and on budget – from concept through launch, by:
- Working with our global teams in Korea to drive alignment in HQ and bring proposals into execution with critical teams such as HQ Engineering, UX, etc.
- Working with Partnerships team for partner-dependent opportunities
- Working with Operations for back-end product improvement initiatives
- Work closely with Curations to embed their perspective into project proposals
- Work closely with Marketing to embed their perspective into project proposals
- Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and competition in Home & Platform services, user preferences and market developments. Understand and articulate user needs, build associated business cases and prioritize proposals
- Drive communications with exec stakeholders for buy-in
- Manage project risks, scope changes and other non-standard events throughout the life of the project
- Own the business model for the product, tracking and updating actuals while forecasting in detail in the short term and in less detail the long term to do scenario planning
- Manage stakeholder communications and progress reporting throughout
- Ensure quality of deliverables is verified and matching or exceeding expectations
- Manage multiple concurrent projects with multiple teams around the world
- Drive the evolution of the product and service
Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications:
- A self-starter with excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Autonomous in driving responsibilities forward, and embracing ownership in the product and business
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, computer science, business, or related field AND 10+ years of relevant experience with proven record around delivery OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, or related field AND 5+ years
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills – with experience managing, directing, and monitoring cross-functional teams to achieve an outcome.
- Specialized in Business Modeling, Strategic Frameworks,
- Proven experience working with content strategy and recommendation strategy
- Proven experience with Mobile, Digital and TV services
- Experience with A/B Testing systems and deploying user tests
- Ability to operate seamlessly between highly detailed and technical situations as well as strategic business situations
- Proven analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to make data-driven decisions and back up product decisions
- Be able to take the high strategic view as well as dive deep on issues
- The ability to manage chaos, ambiguity and complexity, in a detailed, organized way
- Ability to have challenging conversations at all seniority levels internally and externally.
- Ability to negotiate with multiple stakeholders, be able to defend work, and also know when to accept direction
- Ability to navigate heavily matrixed organizations and thrive within a fast-paced environment
- Previous experience in the mobile gaming or related industry a plus
- Experience with working with global teams a must, and professional proficiency in Korean language is a big plus
- Experience working closely with strategic partners, helping them implement Samsung services and third-party SDKs.
- Experience developing various PoC (proof of concept) applications using Java/ANDROID/BLE technologies, including Core Java, Android, Eclipse, and Android Studio.
- Skilled in complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile methodology, JIRA, Confluence, GIT, Source Tree
- Experience with the devops approach, continuous integration, continuous deployment, monitoring and maintenance of deployments in the AWS.

Compensation for this role, for candidates based in New York City, NY is expected to be between $180,000 to $215,000. Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
