Position Summary
The Sr Staff Strategic Sourcing is critical in shaping Illumina's supply chain, thus improving the efficiency of genetic sequencing technology overall to allow for mass scale adoption, maximizing the benefits of genetic information for all. This position will bring specialized skills and experience to resolve complex supply chain issues in creative and effective ways in the area of Oligos & Beads. They will have the opportunity to lead complex projects, apply their unique knowledge and influence across functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sourcing activities to ensure business needs are met.
- Provide functional leadership and direction on technology steering teams.
- Routinely working on significant and unique issues with uncertainty where analysis of situations or data requires good level of business understanding and analytical capability.
- Works on projects where outcomes will be dependent on other functions / teams delivering commitments and the incumbent needs to be able to influence delivery of these activities to meet the overall objectives.
- Leads the strategic roadmap creation and implementation of category strategies for consumables.
- Negotiates agreements (i.e., development agreement, statements of work, licensing agreement, supply agreements, etc.) achieving favorable terms that mitigate business risks and protect Illumina’s IP while reducing equipment cost.
- Strengthen strategic supplier relationships to reduce business risk and support manufacturing site escalations.
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop capabilities, continuity, and capacity.
- Leads the execution of continuous improvement initiatives within Global Supply Chain.
- Partners with executive stakeholders to achieve functional and company goals.

- Experience developing and leading RFx events.
- Strong negotiator; ability to negotiate the best deal for ILMN and influence upward.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time; both domestic and international.
- Familiarity with ERP and procurement systems.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
Experience/Education
Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
