Job Purpose

The Senior Resiliency Engineer will focus on improving the reliability, efficiency, and maintainability of Jackson's Cyberlife mainframe environment. This role requires strong programming and problem-solving skills, deep mainframe technical knowledge, and the ability to analyze and resolve complex system and application issues. The successful candidate will work closely with development, operations, and vendor teams to identify and correct abends, optimize performance, and enhance overall system resiliency.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves mainframe abends and system/application failures within the Cyberlife platform.

  • Develops and implements code fixes, performance improvements, and automation to enhance system stability and efficiency.

  • Conducts detailed batch cycle analysis to identify bottlenecks and implements improvements to reduce processing time and resource consumption.

  • Collaborates with application development and infrastructure teams to identify root causes and long-term solutions for recurring issues.

  • Reviews and optimizes batch processing, job scheduling, and resource utilization across Cyberlife and related systems.

  • Performs detailed debugging and analysis of COBOL, JCL, ASSEMBLER, and other mainframe components.

  • Contributes to the design and implementation of resiliency improvements across Cyberlife and P+ environments.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of changes, fixes, and performance enhancements.

  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve throughput.

  • Provides technical guidance and support to other engineers and developers working on mainframe applications.

  • Ensures compliance with internal standards and best practices for code quality, performance, and reliability.

Other Duties

  • Provides scheduled On-call system support for incidents on a rotational basis.

  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert understanding of Jackson Applications and the troubleshooting of those Applications.

  • Expert understanding of the integration points of the Jackson Applications.

  • Strong proficiency in COBOL, JCL, and REXX; experience with debugging tools and utilities.

  • Solid understanding of z/OS, CICS, MQ, and mainframe batch processing environments.

  • Proven ability to analyze and resolve abends and performance issues in complex mainframe applications.

  • Demonstrated experience in batch cycle analysis and optimization.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Experience working in environments with high reliability and performance requirements.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.

  • Hands-on experience with DB2 and familiarity with the P+ system.

  • Strong decision-making skills.

  • Ability to train others.

  • Ability to document and communicate technical information.

  • Strong influencing skills and ability to work across organizations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, and/or equivalent experience required.

  • 5+ years experience in mainframe application development or systems engineering required.

  • Prior Jackson application experience preferred.

  • Experience with the Cyberlife administrative platform or similar life insurance systems preferred.

  • Exposure to automation, modernization, or efficiency improvement initiatives preferred.

  • Understanding of ITIL processes and change management best practices preferred.
