Summary
Senior Software Team Manager is a member of Novanta R&D center in Brno which is providing wide range of R&D services for various business units in Novanta. Brno designs full systems end to end as well as provide critical competences expertise to global product development teams.
The Senior Software Team Manager will partner with site leadership, project managers and global cross-functional and business partners to provide high-quality software designs. The person will drive the culture of continuous improvement in the team’s capabilities, operations as well as individual development of team members. Further responsibilities of the Software Team Manager include establishing and evolving team environment that enables high quality of software development, fast assimilation of best practices and new technologies. Moreover, the selected candidate will provide technical and team leadership for the globally distributed Software development team composed of the full range of seniority designers as well as full stack of SW competences ranging from OS drivers, middleware up to the front-end designs.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to teammates in the area of software development through coaching and mentorship.
- Work with other engineering managers to staff projects and establish a collaborative working relationship for the globally distributed cross functional team.
- Work with Project Management to make project software staff assignments.
- Effectively lead the team and inspire others to achieve goals through innovation, quality, and excellence.
- Develop software engineering team talent as needed to fulfill existing and emerging software development needs through internal staff development and recruiting.
- Lead the team to deliver high quality Software and documentation required by Quality Management System requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement to achieve high standards of software quality within the team by driving best practices and habits.
- Drive continuous improvement in the area of Software workflow, best practices, code management, continuous integration, effort estimation, schedule compliance, and status reporting. Drive initiatives enabling data-driven estimations for the SW scope of the project.
- Work to develop SW development skill sets as required by technology developments and evolving business needs.
- Review project and work packages proposals and drive technical estimation.
- Leading execution of small, software only, work packages.
- Support the ongoing development of technology / product roadmaps and the execution of those strategies.
Your Experience and Skills
- A total of 5–10 years of experience in software development and at least 3–5 years of experience in managing people.
- Experience with technical team management of software development.
- Proven continuous improvement mindset. Driving improvements to team operation with benefits to people as well as company.
- Experience with agile development methodologies as well as waterfall methodology.
- Efficient communicator.
- Leadership skills (trustworthiness, positivity, responsibility, flexibility, motivation).
- Experience with product development is an advantage.
- Experience with project management is an advantage.
- Experience in a technology company or regulated industry is a big advantage.
- Occasional travel needed (less than 10% of a work year).
