Location: This is a hybrid role based out of our Austin, TX office and requires in-office presence three days a week.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr. SDET) to join the TIppingPoint team within TrendAI’s Vision One platform, focusing on quality assurance for our TPS (Threat Protection System) and SMS (Security Management System) product lines. This role combines deep technical testing expertise with strong networking knowledge and direct customer engagement. The ideal candidate will design and execute test strategies, triage complex network security issues, and serve as a technical liaison for customers experiencing production challenges in enterprise security deployments.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for TPS and SMS platforms, ensuring comprehensive coverage of functional, integration, security, and performance requirements.

  • Create and execute test plans for network security features including intrusion detection/prevention, threat intelligence feeds, and security event correlation.

  • Perform deep-dive analysis of network traffic using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, and protocol analyzers to identify defects.

  • Leverage AI tools to optimize and streamline workflows

  • Test network protocol handling across TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TLS/SSL, and application-layer protocols to ensure proper inspection and policy enforcement.

  • Triage and diagnose complex customer-reported issues involving multi-vendor network topologies, security policy configurations, and threat detection anomalies.

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for escalated customer issues, communicating findings clearly and providing timely resolutions.

  • Collaborate with Development, Product Management, and Support teams to reproduce, document, and track defects through resolution.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines by integrating automated tests and ensuring quality gates are enforced across releases.

  • Document test procedures, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base articles for internal and customer-facing use.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in software testing, QA automation, or SDET roles, preferably in cybersecurity, network security, or enterprise infrastructure products.

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP stack, DNS, routing, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, proxies, and load balancing.

  • Working knowledge of security concepts including IDS/IPS, SIEM integration, threat intelligence, malware detection, and security policy management.

  • Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (Python, Java, Go, or similar) for test automation.

  • Familiarity with packet capture and network analysis tools (Wireshark and tcpdump).

  • Experience troubleshooting networks, security appliances, or centralized management platforms.

  • Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, and command-line troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
