The Northrop Grumman Azusa, California campus is currently seeking a Senior Principal Systems Modeling and Simulation engineer to support the development and execution of our ongoing support for the Missile Warning and Missile Defense portfolio. This position will be responsible for working within the Defense Support Program (DSP) Operations, Mission Threat Analysis (MTA) and Engineering Sustainment (DOMES) Contract. They will communicate and collaborate with customers across the Department of War and Intelligence Community and key advisory organizations (FFRDCs, UARCs, etc.) to enable and enhance our current capabilities in providing missile warning and defense with our Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) assets. This person will integrate Northrop Grumman capabilities into those workflows and products, and drive the development of new solutions for our operational users and the warfighter.

This position is expected to be located at our Azusa, CA facility and is a full-time on-site assignment.

Job Scope And Responsibilities

  • Provide timely detailed assessment of events observed via OPIR Sensors and offer recommendations to optimize mission systems against evolving threats.

  • Conduct mission event performance assessments (technical intelligence, battlespace characterization) for operational and proposed systems.

  • Perform sensor constellation and mission performance studies and provide recommendations to optimize system and system of systems performance.

  • Provide Activity Reports and Profile/Area of Interest data files or recommended changes to files

  • Provide threat profile performance briefings and recommendations to USSPACECOM, Intelligence Community, & FFRDCs

  • Deliver technical briefings and modeling & simulation analysis packages.

  • Maintain and enhance existing modeling and simulation capabilities for the Mission Threat Analysis team via feature updates, or deficiency mitigations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline with 8+ years of relevant Intelligence Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) data exploitation mission experience; Master's degree in STEM with 6+ years of relevant experience; PhD in STEM with 4 years of relevant experience. Preferred candidates may still qualify with experience approaching years listed.

  • Active DoD Secret clearance required at the time of application with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

  • Missile and other threat domain experience experience, understanding of 6DOF behavioral modeling and phenomenologies (Infrared, Radar, Other).

  • Experience with modeling and simulation tool baselines using a tool stack including but not limited to MATLAB, Python, and Systems Tool Kit (STK)

  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation best practices (model configuration management, model composition, mission thread and data flow characterization, model Verification & Validation)

  • Strong communication skills and report generation abilities for technical and non-technical customers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with data exploitation of OPIR assets

  • Previous experience with threat based mission analyses, geospatial intelligence analyses, battle damage assessments, battlespace characterization, or battle management analyses

  • Exceptional Proficiency in MATLAB and MATLAB toolboxes (Image processing, Aerospace Toolbox, Curve Fitting, etc.)

  • Proficiency in AFSIM

  • Proficiency in Machine Learning and Computer Vision

  • Proficiency in complex algorithm design and implementation in modeling and simulation applications (RANSAC, Kalman Filter, Batch Filter, etc.)

  • U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with relevant special programs access.

Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
