Job Summary

Jabil is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Sr. Principal Auto Design Engineer to lead and manage complex automation projects from concept to completion. This role requires a strong blend of engineering expertise, project management acumen, and a deep understanding of automated systems to drive efficiency, quality, and cost savings across Jabil's manufacturing operations.

Job Responsibilities

* Lead and manage the full lifecycle of automation projects, including planning, design, development, implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
* Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and resource requirements, developing comprehensive project plans and schedules.
* Conduct detailed analysis of existing manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for automation and optimization.
* Design and develop robust, scalable, and cost-effective automated solutions, leveraging various technologies such as robotics, PLC systems, SCADA, vision systems, and advanced sensors.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, operations, R&D, and quality assurance to gather requirements, ensure seamless integration, and facilitate successful project execution.
* Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for automation projects, proactively addressing potential challenges.
* Develop and implement testing protocols to validate the functionality, performance, and safety of automated systems.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
* Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements, recommending their adoption where beneficial.
* Prepare and present project updates, technical reports, and budget summaries to stakeholders and senior management.
* Manage external vendors and contractors for the procurement of equipment and services related to automation projects.

Job Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
* 5+ years of progressive experience in automation design, development, and project management within a manufacturing environment.
* Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex automation projects from concept to production.
* Expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial networking protocols.
* Strong experience with robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB) and their integration into automated lines.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for mechanical design and layout.
* Demonstrated knowledge of machine vision systems and their applications in quality control and guidance.
* Solid understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
* Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and resource allocation. PMP certification is a plus.
* Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a strong analytical mindset.
* Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
* Ability to travel as required to various manufacturing sites.
