The Opportunity

This role is accountable for development and execution of communications and public relations strategies that are integrated with Commercial, Public Affairs & Access, U.S. Medical Affairs, cross-functional Global colleagues and other internal stakeholders. The candidate for this role will have an understanding of the communications and campaign requirements for reaching a wide range of audiences, including media, healthcare professionals, patients and policy makers.  The PPR senior manager will bring a unique skill set that complements our existing dynamic team, bringing innovative, digital-first approaches to our communications strategies. In addition, this role will help shape communications strategy and launch plans for our late-stage pipeline assets and portfolio. They should demonstrate an ability to take smart risks, solve problems, influence peers and senior leadership, and deliver results.

You have a background in a fast-paced, digital-first environment, where you've executed multi-channel campaigns that include and go beyond traditional earned media. Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute high impact, integrated U.S. communications and public relations strategies in support of assigned therapy areas and brand(s).
  • Implement end-to-end communications plans for data and regulatory milestones, corporate commitment campaigns and disease education programs, leveraging earned media, sponsored content, social media, influencer relations, and owned media channels to engage key external audiences. 
  • Serve as media relations expert by maintaining relationships with key reporters and developing pitch angles with the goal of delivering thoughtful, positive news coverage.
  • Develop and implement digital strategies spanning corporate digital channels (social media, gene.com) and influencer strategies that support brand objectives. 
  • Partner with numerous internal stakeholders, including Commercial, Public Affairs & Access, U.S. Medical Affairs, Legal and Regulatory, and cross-functional global counterparts and other internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as a strong communications/public relations expert working collaboratively with relevant teams to develop, implement, and deliver our agreed communication programs/campaigns/activities.
  • Develop and measure effective metrics/KPIs to track communication impact and deliver the best business outcomes.
  • Effectively manage agency relationship and budget to ensure delivery of their support through clear objectives, KPIs, continued drive for excellence and innovation.

Qualifications    

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, including journalism, public relations, marketing, and communications. 
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience and established track-record of delivering impactful, strategic and content-rich communications programs, and proactive stakeholder management with demonstrable measures of success.
  • Experience in translating scientific/technical content for a broad range of audiences. Pharmaceutical/biotech or healthcare experience preferred. 
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed organization and across geographical boundaries.
  • Ability to work in agile team settings, supporting the teams and collectively driving for collective results, resilience
  • Advanced social media experience – both in planning strategies and creating impactful content.
  • Ability to work independently, but knows when to flag potential issues to manager and leadership in a timely manner.
  • Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade.
  • Proven capability to influence and counsel senior leaders and teams across functions and geographical boundaries.
  • Able to work and multitask under pressure, have strong organizational ability and respond quickly to changing situations in complex project environments.
  • Confident in building effective relationships, inside and outside the company.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; hardworking team player and self-starter.
  • Ability to work in a global environment including understanding of cultural differences.
  • Requires about 25 to 35% domestic travel.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $141,700.00 – $263,100.00.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position is eligible to earn incentive compensation that is calculated and paid in accordance with the applicable Incentive Compensation Plan for the role.
