This position is responsible for managing firm-wide conflicts review and clearance processes, working closely with the Managing Director, firm attorneys, and the firm’s Ethics Advisory Committee. The Senior Manager oversees the Conflicts Analysts and Conflicts Attorneys operating in or around the Pacific Time Zone (the “West Coast team”). The Senior Manager works with the Managing Director to devise and execute the overall strategic plan for the Conflicts Department. This position is also responsible for providing ongoing education and training to the West Coast team regarding conflicts and business intake processes and procedures.
What You Will Do:
Oversee the day-to-day processing of various types of conflict checks (new clients, new matters, pitches, etc), to ensure that requests are being handled properly and with prompt turn-around time. This includes managing the Intapp conflict check queue and email requests, in coordination with the Conflicts Department’s East Coast and Europe & Asia teams.
Lead and manage the West Coast team to ensure that they handle firm-wide responsibilities effectively.
Recruit, train, and quality control the work-product of the members of the West Coast team.
Collaborate with the Managing Director to formulate, document, and execute strategic plans and procedures related to business intake and conflict-of-interest analysis/resolution to ensure proper conflict management.
Develop and implement action plans for members of the West Coast team to ensure standardization and understanding of processes and procedures associated with conflict identification and resolution.
Oversee collection and maintenance of documentation to comply with risk management requirements related to client/matter intake and comprehensive recordkeeping on all new engagements.
Oversee the execution of the firm’s ethical wall processes and procedures.
Participate in departmental project teams and task forces designed to streamline workflow and/or resolve issues; assist with various firm and/or departmental projects and initiatives as assigned.
Maintain knowledge of trends, developments and new technologies impacting the business intake and conflicts group.
Conduct legal research on conflict-of-interest issues to assist in determining conflict resolution strategy.
Who you Are:
ABA-accredited JD preferred.
7+ years of business intake and conflicts management experience in a professional service organization; law firm experience preferred.
Prior experience using automated conflicts and/or workflow system.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a broad range of people in a professional manner.
Ability to lead and manage. Provide appropriate level of direction and guidance to staff, delegate work effectively and support effective feedback culture.
Take ownership of the work product of the Department to ensure that desired outcomes are achieved. Able to balance needs of multiple clients at the same time.
Display solution-oriented approach to client service. Able to develop options and recommend solutions for clients.
Strong project management skills & attention to detail.
Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of Intapp conflict checking and business intake software a plus.
