What you'll be doing
The Senior Manager, Accounting reports to the U.S. Region Assistant Controller and will be a leading contributor and serve as a key point of contact to the U.S. accounting operations. As part of the U.S. Finance team this position will be responsible for accounting, reporting, internal controls and other various areas in the U.S. region. The primary accountability is to ensure the integrity of accounting information specific to various CIBC accounting functions.

How you'll succeed
Responsible for accounting activities for the life-cycle of share-based compensation and incentive compensation:
Prepare share-based compensation journal entries by compiling/reviewing various reports and analyzing account and transactional information
Expense recognition in accordance with plan terms and relevant accounting standards
Oversight for incentive compensation-related accounting for the US CIBC Group of Companies.
Compliance with intercompany equity award agreements in place with US participating entities
Preparation of billing and settlement statements with affiliates for cash-settled share-based compensation transactions
Responsible for various analytical assessments of highly complex transactional activities culminating in a determination of appropriate accounting entries.
Complete quality assurance in the form of reconciliation review, continuity schedules, trend analysis, research issues, identify and recommend resolution and provide qualitative commentary for management reporting.
Production of US budgeting/forecasting under US GAAP and supplemental schedules for IFRS
Review applicable schedules to support periodic statutory and regulatory financial disclosures and footnotes to the audited financial statements.
Serve as internal US GAAP subject matter expert
Interact with SOX team, internal and external auditors for quarterly reviews, year-end audits, as well as ensuring that internal controls are in place and procedures are followed to satisfy periodic review of compliance with effective internal controls.
Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with all internal controls, policy, and procedures.
Identify dataflow and procedural opportunities to optimize key accountabilities and controls by leveraging technology solutions such as Alteryx and Tableau.
Foster cross-functional relationships with US Human Resources, Accounting Operations, Tax, Accounting Policy and counterpart colleagues in Toronto to ensure accounting over share-based compensation and incentive compensation is comprehensive and GAAP compliant.
Manage multiple tasks and projects as assigned by senior management.
Manage 1 direct report.
Who you are
You have a Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance. A CPA is required.
You possess strong US GAAP accounting knowledge and experience; familiarity with US GAAP ASC 718 and IFRS 2.
You have 5+ years progressive accounting experience; strong exposure and understanding of consolidation and financial statement reporting; experience in a multi-national organization a plus.
You exhibit strong analytical skills and technical experience of storage and movement of data with ability to extract data from accounting systems and apply information appropriately
You have excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous projects
You show flexibility and creativity to adapt to changing priorities.
You possess superior communication skills to promote interactions and co-operation with stakeholders across the enterprise.
At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $115,000 - $155,000K for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
