Your part in the Blue Care Team

Blue Care operate over 32 retirement villages across Queensland, with more than 3,300 residents choosing to make a Blue Care communities their home.

Step into the Accountant role where your financial expertise truly makes an impact. As an Accountant, you’ll report to the Commercial Manager, Retirement Living to drive the delivery of high-quality financial accounting across our Retirement Livings team. Your problem-solving mindset and passion for process improvement will help lift performance, strengthen compliance and support better business outcomes. 
 
You’ll be part of a highly collaborative team, playing a key role in delivering core financial, management and day-to-day accounting activities and supporting monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. 
 
We’re looking for someone proactive, detail driven and compliance focused—someone who takes initiative, thrives on continuous improvement and brings real energy to their work. 
 
Please note, this is a full time, 12 month max term position. Flexibility is important to us, and we know it is to you, too - this role supports hybrid working.   
 
Your part in the BlueCare team:    

  • Support and Contribute to and deliver the financial reporting month end close process per agreed timetable, as required

  • Support and Contribute to and deliver the annual budget at a village and operator level per agreed timetable and legislative requirements, as required.

  • Support and Provide general ledger account reconciliation and verification activities, as required.

  • Maintain the systems and processes to ensure the appropriate accounting and reporting, including retirement living accounting.

  • Support and Deliver village annual audited financial statements as per agreed timetable and legislative requirements, as required.

  • Support the internal audit requirements of activities that fall within the financial accounting and reporting team responsibilities.

  • Support the external audit requirements, at both the village and operator level, as required

  • Support in Delivering accurate financial reporting that meets all relevant legislative requirements, accounting standards, regulatory requirements, funders requirements and/or approved policy in a timely and efficient manner, as required

  • Assistance in gathering data and responding to resident and village queries.

  • Participate in prioritizing and implementing process improvements in retirement living accounting.

  • Active consultation and interaction with stakeholders on retirement living accounting concepts and finance queries.

  • Undertake other duties as and when directed within the scope of the role and the capabilities of the incumbent. 

What makes a difference for us?   

  • Confidence to satisfy the relevant probity checks required by legislation or policies. This may include a Nationally Coordinated Police Check, Right to Work in Australia, Insolvency Check  

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business or a related field, ideally with a CAANZ/CPA or similar membership (or working towards). 

  • Preferred: Experience within Not-For-Profit organisations, Retirement Living 

  • Strong finance and accounting expertise, with solid knowledge of relevant accounting standards and legislation is highly regarded.  

  • Advanced technology skills, especially in Excel, with experience in tools like Microsoft Dynamics, PowerQuery, PowerPivot and Power BI highly regarded.  

  • A collaborative, organised team player who applies logical problem-solving to deliver quality outcomes.  

  • Skilled in investigation, interpretation and analysis, with a track record of improving processes.  

  • Clear and confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills, able to engage effectively with nonfinancial audiences.  

  • High attention to detail, accuracy and a proactive approach to getting things done.
