Your Job:

GlobalFoundries (GF) is seeking a Senior Member Technical Staff (SMTS) Compact Modeling Manager to lead a team delivering best-in-class transistor compact models into Process Design Kits (PDKs) across multiple technology platforms. This role requires a hands-on technical leader with deep device-physics intuition and proven people skills—someone who can set modeling strategy, mentor engineers, and partner effectively across worldwide teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a high-performing compact modeling team (MTS/Principal, Sr. Engineers and Students): hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career development; foster an inclusive, collaborative culture with strong communication and ownership.

  • Own end-to-end model delivery for digital/analog/RF device portfolios: define scope, plan milestones, prioritize work, and ensure high-quality releases that enable customer design success.

  • Provide technical vision and guidance in extraction and validation of industry-standard model families (e.g., BSIM/PSP and SOI variants), including behaviors across DC/low frequency, RF/high frequency, noise, and mismatch.

  • Drive model QA/validation and circuit benchmarking best practices: data selection rigor, parameter extraction methodology, sanity checks, correlation, documentation, and release readiness reviews.

  • Partner cross-functionally with characterization/test labs, PDK, device engineering, process integration, design manual, and layout/test-chip design to define needed test structures, resolve discrepancies, and close gaps in data/model alignment.

  • Guide or review test-structure definition and layout strategy, correlating device intent with layout implementation, arrays, and measurement plans.

  • Champion automation and efficiency improvements in model generation and analysis workflows (e.g., scripting for extraction/QA, standardized flows, reusable tooling).

  • Act as a senior technical interface for customer support and escalations: explain model behavior vs. silicon trends, help debug issues, and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with strong semiconductor device focus.

  • Experience: Demonstrated, progressive experience in compact model development and validation, including technical leadership responsibilities (M.S. + 10+ years or Ph.D. + 5–8 years); prior team-lead responsibility or people-management highly desired

  • Deep understanding of device physics and modeling (e.g., MOSFET/diode/varactor as applicable), including noise and mismatch fundamentals.

  • Practical experience with model extraction and data analytics; proficiency in Python/Perl (or similar) for parameter extraction, QA, and workflow automation.

  • Working knowledge of RF concepts (e.g., S-parameters) and their use in model extraction/validation (role-dependent).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate across geographies and influence without authority.

  • Work Location Requirement: Bangalore (on-site) — regular on-site presence is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cadence ADE simulations and/or Verilog-A model development and debugging.

  • Track record of driving structured problem-solving, continuous improvement, and standardization across teams.

Other Responsibilities

Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
