This is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.
Successful candidate may work anywhere in Duke's service territory.
Responsible for the daily monitoring duties for all technology types (Coal, Combined Cycle, Simple Cycle CT, Hydro).
Master all features of the Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) Software (AVEVA Predictive Analytics).
Strive to have zero “preventable” misses.
Maintain assigned models in acceptable working order with proper PI (Plant Information) points, training, and alarm management.
Review daily event reports with a questioning attitude: “should M&D have notified”.
Work with software vendor as required to discuss future enhancements to assist with efficiency and reducing “false positives”.
Document Notifications and “Finds” per M&D process to capture avoided costs; strive to maintain open/in-progress items at a minimal level.
Support Plant Health Meetings (PHM’s) by discussing significant open/in-progress finds and push for closure.
Serve as a change agent to help departmental personnel embrace SmartGen technology and M&D.
Perform daily monitoring of site critical components first; all assets with models are to be monitored 5 days/week, critical assets w/o exception.
Evaluate alarms for potential equipment-related issues; interact with both Corporate/Regional Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), site Technical and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Analysts when needed.
Build new models in the APR Software Suite as additional units/equipment come online; evaluate the adequacy of existing deployed models and retrain/update as required.
Train Site Engineers/Specialists and CBM Analysts when required on how to interpret the APR software data for component monitoring.
Presentations to outside industry groups and/or Duke Management as requested.
Collaborate with Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Industry peer groups and Nuclear M&D Center, seeking to bolster work groups effectiveness.
Attend industry conferences and events where the primary focus is On-Line Monitoring Technology; recommend software enhancements as needed.
Assist in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities -- be a “change agent” for M&D.
Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.

Associate’s degree in engineering technology
6 years related work experience
In lieu of associate’s degree(s) AND 6 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 8 year(s) related work experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology
In addition to desired degree, 12 years related work experience
Vibration Analyst: ISO Category III and/or Oil Analysis I & II and/or Offline Motor Circuit Analysis (MCA) and/or Airborne Ultrasound Level I and/or Level 1 Thermographer
Good written and oral communication skills
Minimum of 12 years plant experience as a System Owner, Operations Engineer or Maintenance Engineer, CBM Analysts.
System and component knowledge with Combined Cycle or Coal Fired units.
Experienced Monitoring & Diagnostic Center Analysts that has utilized APR tools like Advanced Analytics, Prism, Smart Signal, PDP, etc.
GE, Siemens or other Combustion Turbine Field Engineering experience
Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems with unique familiarity utilizing Electrical Testing technologies, e.g., Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), on/off-line motor testing, partial discharge analysis, etc.
Certified in vibration, Infrared (IR), Ultrasound, lubrication technologies.
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
