Position Summary

The Sr. Director, Engineering leads the Product Delivery organization for Rimini Street's Agentic ERP Platform—a strategic initiative that enables AI agents to interact with legacy ERP systems including SAP, Oracle E-Business Suite, and JD Edwards. This role is responsible for building and leading a high-performing engineering team across platform development, AI/ML integration, DevOps, and quality assurance.

Reporting to the GVP – Agentic ERP, this leader will drive engineering execution, establish development standards, and ensure the platform is delivered on schedule and at enterprise quality. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in enterprise software development with proven experience building AI-enabled platforms and scaling engineering teams in a global environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Lead the engineering implementation of the Agentic ERP Platform architecture, including MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, AI agent frameworks, and ERP integration layers.
• Partner with the GVP – Agentic ERP to evolve and refine the technical architecture as the platform matures.
• Establish engineering standards, code quality guidelines, and development patterns that enable rapid, reliable delivery.
• Execute technology decisions across the stack: Java 21/Quarkus for MCP servers, Python/Pydantic AI for agents, PostgreSQL/pgvector for data, Angular for UI, and supporting infrastructure (LiteLLM, Restate, OpenTelemetry).
• Ensure platform meets enterprise requirements for security, scalability, observability, and air-gap deployment capabilities.
• Translate the technical roadmap into engineering execution plans aligned with business objectives and delivery timelines.

Team Building & Leadership

• Build and lead a world-class engineering organization across multiple disciplines: platform development, AI/ML, DevOps, observability, security, and QA.
• Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent in a competitive market.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor Principal Engineers and technical leads; establish clear career paths for the engineering team.
• Implement effective engineering processes including agile delivery, code reviews, and technical design reviews.

Execution & Delivery

• Deliver platform capabilities on schedule, progressing from MVP through commercial launch within aggressive timelines.
• Manage the engineering budget and resource allocation; optimize for velocity while maintaining quality.
• Establish and track engineering KPIs: velocity, quality metrics, system reliability, and team health.
• Coordinate with Operational Delivery teams to ensure platform capabilities meet client deployment needs.
• Partner with US leadership on strategic planning, client escalations, and go-to-market technical requirements.

Innovation & Industry Alignment

• Stay current with AI/ML advancements, particularly in LLM integration, agent frameworks, and enterprise AI patterns.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations to leadership on build/buy/partner decisions.
• Contribute to thought leadership and technical content that positions Rimini Street as an innovator in enterprise AI.

Experience

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams, preferably in enterprise software or platform companies.
• Demonstrated success delivering platforms from development through production at scale.
• Experience with enterprise software systems; ERP domain experience (SAP, Oracle, JDE) strongly preferred.
• Track record of building AI/ML-enabled products or platforms; experience with LLM integration is highly desirable.
• Experience leading distributed/global engineering teams across multiple time zones.
• History of successful collaboration with US-based leadership and stakeholders.

Technical Skills

Required

• Strong architectural background in Java enterprise development (Java 17+, Quarkus or Spring Boot, microservices).
• Proficiency in Python for AI/ML workloads, including frameworks like Pydantic AI or LangChain.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks, preferably Angular; TypeScript proficiency.
• Deep understanding of API design, integration patterns, and enterprise connectivity (REST, gRPC, messaging).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and data architecture; familiarity with vector databases (pgvector, Qdrant) preferred.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in CI/CD practices, DevOps tooling, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Understanding of observability stack: OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing (Jaeger), metrics (Prometheus), and logging.

Preferred

• Experience with LLM integration, prompt engineering, and AI agent architectures.
• Familiarity with LLM gateways (LiteLLM) and model orchestration patterns.
• Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks (Restate, Temporal, or similar).
• Knowledge of SAP integration technologies (RFC/BAPI, SAP JCo) or Oracle EBS APIs (ISG, REST).
• Background in identity/access management (OIDC, OAuth2, OPA) for enterprise systems.
• Experience with Snowflake, particularly Cortex AI for enterprise data workloads.
• Knowledge of ServiceNow platform development is a plus.

Leadership & Soft Skills

• Exceptional communication skills—able to translate complex technical concepts for executive audiences.
• Strong executive presence; comfortable presenting to C-level stakeholders and clients.
• Proven ability to build high-performing teams and develop engineering talent.
• Strategic thinking balanced with hands-on technical depth when needed.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with evolving requirements.
• Cross-cultural collaboration skills; experience working with US-based leadership teams.
• Fluent in English (written and verbal); additional languages a plus.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Experience in startups or greenfield product development within larger organizations.
• Background in enterprise software companies serving Fortune 500 clients.
• AWS Solutions Architect or Kubernetes certifications.
• Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks.
