Sr Dir Strategic Clinical Quality

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Serves as a designated expert consultant for the Clinical Quality function. Contributes to strategic direction to facilitate the achievement of company goals for improved patient outcomes and superior quality standards for assigned division. Provides expertise, support, and guidance to assigned operations and clinical leadership teams and staff regarding the practice of continuous Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees short- and long-term goals to implement positive change and/or create organizational structure.
  • Oversees high quality performance through development and implementation of strategies to attain goals and objectives related o quality outcomes. Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders including but not limited to the Clinical Quality leadership team, Operations, Education, Clinical Services, Regulatory, Compliance and Medical Advisory Board members to take the appropriate steps to facilitate achievement of quality goals and reduce company risk.
  • Contributes to the development of long and short-term goals and objectives related to improvement of quality outcomes, patient safety and patient centered care and facilitates implementation of strategies to achieve goals.
  • Incorporates the Quality Safety and Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies of patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidenced-based practice, safety and informatics into their practice to continuously improve the quality and safety of care delivered to patients.
  • Technically proficient in utilizing appropriate dashboards to monitor high-level quality trends. Analyzes complex quality issue using in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Evaluates results and initiates/drives improvement activities as needed.
  • Utilizes data surveillance to analyze, trend and benchmark quality outcomes for assigned regions providing updates to the Medical Office Quality, Clinical and Operational leadership and other stakeholders as deemed necessary.
  • Utilizes evidenced based and best demonstrated practices to address barriers to quality improvement. This includes promoting the adoption and utilization of Corporate Medical Advisory Board Recommended Algorithms and Standing Orders, clinical pathways and clinical policies and procedures to improve care coordination and delivery.
  • Facilitates implementation and utilization of company-wide policies, procedures and the FKC Quality Enhancement and Management Program into the facility standard operating procedures.
  • May prepare written communications for distribution within the groups regarding various initiatives and projects collaborating with the stakeholders as needed.
  • Provides updates, reports and presentations on Quality Improvement activities, outcomes, and issues to executive teams.
  • Provides pertinent oversight and direction for the administration of quality management policies, standards and processes. Contributes to the development of long and short-term goals and objectives related to improvement of quality outcomes and patient safety and taking the appropriate steps to achieve the goals.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and the Quality Leadership team and clinical leadership to plan, develop and execute quality improvement strategies and initiatives.  
  • Provides guidance, interpretation and subject matter expertise to the leadership team regarding inquiries about clinical policies and procedures, clinical standards, as well as professional practice and regulatory licensing issues pertaining to quality improvement.
  • Utilizes quality improvement principles and methodology to evaluate the impact of quality improvement strategies and initiatives implemented in the assigned division.
  • Responds to emergent requests from Quality Management to investigate, intervene and assist with resolution of complex issues including serious adverse events and complaints.
  • Applies current knowledge of company clinical and administrative policies, procedures, available internal resources, CMS
  • Conditions of Coverage for ESRD facilities, Value Based Payer Programs and quality improvement concepts, principles and practices.
  • Assists in the development of training programs and processes to ensure the implementation and incorporation of the company’s quality standards and the practice of Continuous Quality Improvement in facility standard procedures and that all ESRD regulatory and legal requirements are met.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • This position requires approximately 15% to 30% travel.

SUPERVISION:

May be responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Quality staff.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Advanced Degree in healthcare related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Registered Nurse required
  • Certification in Nephrology Nursing or healthcare quality preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 6+ years’ related experience with 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Assists in the development of reports that can be shared with payors illustrating outstanding quality of patient care through associated outcomes.
  • Responsible for addressing and acting on adverse events and action thresholds.
  • Responsible for coaching, developing and overseeing performance of departmental Case Managers.
  • Recruits, promotes, orients and develops Case Managers.  Provides direction, advice, and assistance in areas of policy and procedures and efficiency.
  • Completes timely performance appraisals and sets annual goals for direct reports.
  • Ensures a strong communication process between Case Managers, Clinical Managers, Physicians, direct patient care staff, and all support staff at the facility, business Unit and Corporate Levels by leading regularly scheduled communication sessions and meetings.
  • Oversees and coordinates all data collection and auditing activities.
  • Develops implements and evaluates performance measure methods to evaluate and improve productivity and quality of services.
  • Accountable for outstanding cost-effective quality patient care as defined by goals, by working with the appropriate facility staff and business unit staff as well as the Directors of Managed Care.
  • Collaborates with Leadership to develop the annual departmental budget and ensures cost efficient budget operations within the Case Management Department.
  • Leads special ad hoc projects, establishing parameters, timelines, managing team personnel etc. as needed.
