The Company's Total Rewards package is at or above industry levels. The expected base salary range for this position is between 98,880.00 USD - 129,780.00 USD. Job related skills, experience, education, and location will be considered in setting actual starting base salary. In addition to your base salary and depending on job level, eligibility, and performance, a total package may include profit sharing, a short-term incentive and/or long-term incentives. ABOUT THE ROLE

Join the team shaping the future of SC Johnson Lifestyle Brands! Based in vibrant San Francisco, and reporting to the Packaging Engineering Manager, the Senior Associate, Packaging Engineer plays a key role in creating the next generation of packaging for some of the world’s most loved consumer brands.

In this role, you’ll help bring ideas from concept to self, developing new packaging, supporting line extensions, and driving technical innovation that keeps our products fresh, functional, and sustainable. You’ll collaborate across R&D, marketing, and supply chain to solve real-world challenges and deliver packaging that delights consumers globally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leverage new and existing packaging technologies to develop innovative packaging solutions and elevate existing products—driving consumer appeal, ease of use, and helping SC Johnson win at the shelf.

  • Plan and execute performance, reliability, and compatibility testing to validate packaging component changes and ensure long‑term product quality.

  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams (R&D, Design, Marketing, Consumer Insights, Product Supply) to accelerate development and ensure flawless execution of new product launches.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including packaging component specifications, finished goods specifications, and bills of materials to support validation and production readiness.

  • Apply strong technical acumen and analytical problem‑solving to diagnose packaging issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain uninterrupted production and consistent quality.

  • Support commercialization of new packaging ideas by contributing technical insights that strengthen consumer value, enhance sustainability, and align with business goals.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging or other relevant engineering disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, Materials, etc.) and 3+ years packaging engineering or product development within a manufacturing setting

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship for full-time employment

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Design of Experiments

  • Knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various delivery system technologies (e.g., aerosol formulation, emulsion chemistry, gel formulation, polymer chemistry, reaction products, surfactants, solvents, builders)

  • Experience and technical competency in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging design and qualification (e.g. product/environment compatibility, distribution and environmental testing, manufacturing qualification)

  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written presentation; including effective story-telling to the non-technical individual

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, including anticipation and communication of risk profile and mitigation plans; strategic thinking and action to effectively navigate complex and/or ambiguous situations

  • Expertise in multiple packaging disciplines; dispensing systems, materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements, plastic molding techniques, and product/environment compatibility

  • Knowledge of consumer testing techniques and execution of appropriate studies to evaluate product performance during use

  • An understanding of the developing consumer market

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is Full-Time, regular business hours, Monday-Friday 

  • Office work environment: San Francisco, CA office

  • Remote work available once a week after 90-day onboarding period

  • Domestic relocation is not available for this role

  • Travel up to 10%

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
