About the Team
In 2024, Workday launched an Enterprise Data and Analytics (ED&A) team with a mission to transform and optimize the way Workday creates and shares trusted data to drive actionable insights and data-led innovation across the enterprise. The team has introduced a new, cloud-based technical stack, a data product methodology anchored in the principles of DataOps, an Active Data Governance methodology to manage the quality and discovery of data, and a series of modern analytics tools that facilitate discovery, analysis, visualization, machine learning, and AI. The team’s goal is to lead high-value cross-functional data and analytics work and to support the broader Workday analytics community by establishing modern, common ways of working, facilitating training and communication, and creating secure data and analytics brokering capability across business units.About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Analytics Engineer to lead and evolve the end-to-end process of making data reliably available for analytics and operational use cases. Focused on data availability, you will own the journey from initial ingestion to the raw zone of our data warehouse, data classification, promotion across environments, and ongoing observability.
You will standardize how new data sources are onboarded, transformed, validated, and made discoverable. You will collaborate closely with analytics engineers, platform engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure that data products are robust, well-governed, and continuously monitored for quality, performance, and security. You will also collaborate with application integration teams to ensure data is reliably available for egress.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives at the intersection of analytics engineering and governance, and who is passionate about automation, standardization, and building self-service capabilities at scale.
About You
You are a process-driven, hands-on senior engineer with a strong technical background in data platforms and governance. You are comfortable starting from partially manual processes and systematically evolving them into automated, standardized frameworks. You understand the full data lifecycle, from ingestion through consumption, and you appreciate the critical role of governance, observability, and security. You are a collaborative problem-solver who can engage both deeply technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, and you are motivated by enabling others through reliable, self-service data capabilities.
Basic Qualifications
6–8+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related role, with hands-on responsibility for production data platforms and workflows.
Strong proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with modern cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake).
Proficiency in Python for data manipulation, automation, and integration tasks.
Hands-on experience with data ingestion tools and patterns (e.g., Fivetran, Airbyte, custom ingestion using REST APIs or similar).
Practical understanding of DataOps/DevOps principles and methodologies as applied to data (version control, environment management, automated testing, continuous integration and delivery).
Experience integrating and orchestrating modern data stack components (e.g., dbt, Airflow, GitHub).
High-level understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing best practices.
Demonstrated ability to debug and resolve issues in data pipelines , including failed tests and deployment failures.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with data governance concepts and data catalog/lineage tools (e.g., Atlan, Collibra), including applying governance policies to onboarding and promotion workflows.
Experience with data quality and observability solutions such as dbt test, including writing tests and setting up alerts.
Familiarity of data security best practices and experience implementing security controls and checks within pipelines (e.g., access controls, masking, policy enforcement).
Experience working with agile methodologies and contributing to DataOps/DevOps practices within cross-functional teams.
Experience using workflow and project management tools (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow) to manage intake, prioritization, and delivery of data onboarding work.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email accommodations@workday.com.
