Our team is built on entrepreneurial drive, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to our clients.
Internship Overview
Are you drawn to the energy of live events, professional sports, and entertainment venues? ESP Specialty Insurance’s Sports & Entertainment Internship puts you at the center of one of the most dynamic niches in the insurance industry. You’ll work directly with our S&E team, supporting insurance programs for event venues, entertainment facilities, racquet sports clubs, padel facilities, pickleball complexes, historic theatres, and more. Our clients range from local FECs and sports clubs to nationally recognized entertainment properties. This is a hands-on role built for someone who wants to learn the business of specialty insurance while working alongside producers and underwriters who operate at the highest level of the market.
What You’ll Do
Support account managers with new business submissions, renewal packages, and coverage comparison documents for sports, entertainment, and venue clients
Assist with underwriting data collection for diverse account types including sports clubs, entertainment venues, event facilities, and specialty risks
Help prepare client-facing deliverables: renewal letters, coverage summaries, proposal documents, and binder confirmation packages
Coordinate with ESP’s carrier network — including USLI, Cincinnati Specialty, Alive Risk/HDI, Kinsale, Markel, Rokstone, and others — on placement and endorsements
Log account activity and track renewal pipelines in the agency system
Research emerging sports and entertainment market trends (e.g., pickleball, padel, esports) to support prospecting and submission strategy
Support the SHEL group (Sports, Hospitality, Entertainment & Leisure) with reporting, submissions, and operational tasks
What We’re Looking For
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, Hospitality, Marketing, or a related field (rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior preferred)
Passion for sports, live events, entertainment, or venue-based businesses — no prior insurance experience required
Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional presence in client and carrier interactions
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and deliverables at once
Entrepreneurial mindset with curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to tackle new challenges
Collaborative team player with a client-first attitude and high ethical standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); CRM or data tool experience is a plus
Interest in the business side of sports and entertainment (venue operations, event production, sports management) is a meaningful advantage
What You’ll Learn
How specialty insurance for sports facilities, entertainment venues, and event-based risks is structured, underwritten, and placed
The distinction between admitted and surplus lines markets and how ESP navigates both on behalf of clients
How to build a full insurance submission from application through binding, across diverse and complex risk types
Key coverages in the sports and entertainment space: general liability, liquor liability, event cancellation, participant accident, property, and excess
How SPG Sports and Entertainment four brands — ESP Specialty, Insurance Allies, Sadler Sports, and Jones Birdsong — serve different client segments within the specialty market
Practical production and reporting skills used to track division performance and growth metrics
How a specialty brokerage operates at the producer, carrier, and program level — a foundation for a high-growth career path in insurance
