Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CTP certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in banking, treasury, or financial services, including 3+ years in a leadership or senior advisory/sales role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in consultative selling, with the ability to uncover client needs, translate complex financial challenges into actionable solutions, and guide clients through treasury transformation initiatives.
  • Strong client‑side understanding, including familiarity with corporate treasury workflows, payables/receivables processes, liquidity management practices, treasury technology, and the operational realities clients face in their treasury environments.
  • Deep knowledge of treasury products (e.g., liquidity solutions, payment optimization, fraud mitigation, receivables automation) and the ability to articulate their strategic and financial impact.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing teams, manage competing priorities, and drive both individual and collective revenue results in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information, influence senior stakeholders, and present clearly to clients and internal partners.

About the Team:

The Treasury and Payment Solutions (TPS) Sales organization within BMO’s U.S. Commercial Bank delivers cash management, card solutions, merchant services, and deposit products to clients across diverse industries. The Specialty Groups Sales team focuses on tailored solutions for key verticals such as Institutional Markets, Multinational corporations, and Sponsor Finance & Funds.

Role Overview:

As a Treasury Consultant Team Lead, you will lead and develop a team of treasury consultants responsible for driving revenue growth, deepening client relationships, and advancing BMO’s Treasury & Payment Solutions (TPS) strategic objectives. This role requires a strong sales‑leadership mindset, deep treasury expertise, and the ability to guide high‑performing consultants in delivering proactive, consultative solutions to commercial and corporate clients.

You will be accountable for:

Providing strategic leadership, performance management, and coaching to a team of Treasury Consultants, ensuring excellence in sales execution, product expertise, and client engagement.

Bringing treasury expertise, and client consultation support to your team for client discovery and solutioning efforts and proactive client and prospect outreach. This also includes working with your team to develop industry-specific collateral and thought leadership deepen client dialogues.

Driving operational discipline within the TPS ecosystem by ensuring accurate, timely completion of client deliverables, proposals, pricing structures, and onboarding activities while maintaining a strong risk‑management culture.

Aligning with RM partners on growing the TPS business within their book through strategic account planning that increases net new names to the bank, improves treasury cross-sell penetration, and deepening our treasury relationships across the portfolio. Work within the BMO TPS ecosystem to help your team complete necessary client deliverables and tasks with the right level of urgency, a focus on client satisfaction and adherence to risk and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of high‑performing Treasury Consultants, ensuring strong sales execution, advanced product knowledge, and exceptional client engagement.
    • Provide consistent performance management through coaching, goal setting, deal reviews, and talent development activities.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the team.

  •  Treasury Expertise & Client Consultation
    • Serve as the team’s senior expert on treasury products, industry trends, client needs, and solution design. Train and model consultative selling and advisory support to TCs across the TPS organization.
    • Support consultants in client discovery, solutioning, and proactive outreach to deepen client relationships and identify treasury opportunities.
    • Guide the development of industry‑specific collateral, presentations, and thought‑leadership content to differentiate BMO’s value proposition and enhance client dialogue.

  • Operational Discipline & Execution Excellence
    • Monitor team performance metrics, pipeline activity, and client engagement through Salesforce and other reporting tools. Ensure the team is appropriately tracking their client activity and opportunities in Salesforce and managing pipeline in a timely manner.  
    • Ensure timely, accurate completion of all client deliverables, including proposals, pricing models, solution designs, and onboarding documentation.
    • Oversee adherence to TPS operational processes, elevating issues and removing barriers to maintain momentum on complex deals.
    • Reinforce strong discipline around pricing and rates, documentation, exceptions, and internal approvals.

  • Partnership & Revenue Growth
    • Collaborate closely with Relationship Managers (RMs) to execute strategic account planning across assigned portfolios.
    • Accelerate TPS growth through targeted strategies that expand cross‑sell penetration, drive net‑new client acquisition, and deepen existing client treasury relationships.
    • Align consultant support with RM priorities to ensure optimal coverage and maximize revenue outcomes.

  • Cross‑Functional Alignment & Internal Collaboration
    • Partner effectively with teams across TPS—Product, Implementation, Operations, Pricing, and Risk—to ensure seamless delivery of treasury solutions.
    • Advocate for consultant needs and client priorities within the broader TPS ecosystem.
    • Collaborate with sales leaders to ensure consistent communication, feedback loops, and alignment of team activities with organizational strategy.

  • Risk & Compliance:
    • Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance standards across all team activities.
    • Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.

Applies consultative sales and relationship management practices to generate leads and close sales of treasury management and payment solutions for new and existing clients while ensuring regulatory compliance. Monitors implementation activities to ensure alignment with timelines. Provides tailored treasury management solutions and optimizes sales processes through continuous process improvements to enhance client experiences and business outcomes. Manages sales processes, client engagement and outcomes.

  • Leads business development efforts by building and nurturing strategic relationships with prospects and existing clients, identifying opportunities for cross-selling treasury and cash management solutions, and leveraging professional networks to expand business reach.
  • Leads complex deal closures with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure efficient execution aligned with organizational goals and compliance.
  • Evaluates potential vulnerabilities and manages risks within client portfolios, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while aligning service levels with business objectives.
  • Oversees client implementation activities to ensure timely delivery, providing actionable feedback for internal process refinement and improved client experiences.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert, delivering innovative treasury solutions to enhance client and internal operational efficiency.
  • Represents the organization at industry forums and community events, utilizing market insights and trends to reinforce the Bank’s brand and identify new business opportunities.
  • Executes on strategic initiatives by coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with business goals, operational excellence, and market-leading practices.
  • Coordinates the management of databases; ensures alignment and integration of data in adherence with data governance standards.
  • Champions process optimization by spearheading large-scale workflow improvements and integrating best practices across treasury and payment operations to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Builds and maintains strong long-term relationships with the bank’s high-value and strategic clients, providing strategic advice on financial solutions and ensuring exceptional service and partnership.
  • Analyzes client and industry data to inform customized client solution strategies that includes optimizing management of working capital.
  • Works closely with internal teams and stakeholders to define products, solutions and strategies that best fit clients’ needs.
  • Builds advocacy and adoption of the suite of industry leading NA TPS digital products & solutions.
  • Supports implementation activities, including documentation, pricing, and project timelines ensuring timely delivery and continuous process improvements.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance, mitigating risk and maintaining service standards.
  • Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in Sales and treasury management, financial operations or risk management in a corporate or banking environment is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; Business Administration, Finance and Accounting preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.

Salary:

$102,000.00 - $190,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
