SUMMARY
Supports and works in conjunction with Process Control Engineers to implement and ensure compliance of ISA/IEC 61511 standards for critical instrumentation and controls while also maintaining and upgrading the DCS and PLC control systems in the areas of assignment. Priority will be placed on systems used to ascertain and maintain proper function and documentation of testing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintains and audits proof testing procedures for all Safety Instrumented Systems within assigned areas.
- Tracks Safety Instrumented Systems design changes and verifies compliance.
- Audits and modifies proof test frequencies based on historical maintenance data.
- Attends unit PHAs as subject matter expert on process control safeguards for hazard mitigation.
- Updates safety requirement specifications after PHA revalidations.
- Performs analysis to ensure Safety Instrumented Systems remain in compliance with safety requirement specifications.
- Tracks, audits, and reports on safety function bypasses.
- Performs routine alarm management reviews with operations.
- Reviews alarm changes for compliance with Alarm Management procedures.
- Performs modifications to automations systems and tracks changes within assigned areas.
- Monitors advanced process control elements and reports on usage.
- Identifies and troubleshoots problems relating to control loops and control logic configuration and performs modifications as needed.
- Provides technical support to maintenance and operations to aid in troubleshooting problems surrounding and including automation systems.
- Maintains spare parts and hot standby systems.
- Supports operations during unit startups, shutdowns, and runtime.
- Performs and maintains backups of all control software and all critical automation systems.
- Assists Process Control Engineer in auditing and maintaining compliance with cybersecurity standards surrounding Safety Instrumented Systems and the Process Control network.
- Assists Process Control Engineers with developing a capital improvement plan and implementing any control system upgrades or major modification projects.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
- Technical degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in programming industrial DCS or Safety Instrumented Systems is preferred.
- Extensive working knowledge of computers, computer networks, and computer-based equipment.
- Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
