The Residency Specialist provides customer service to new and continuing students related to Ohio residency for tuition purposes as well as other aspects of their student record such as financial aid and enrollment. This role assists students electronically, over the phone, and in-person. The Residency Specialist communicates with other student services areas to facilitate the consistent delivery of information and services; and refers students to other departments and resources as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Student Support
Serves as a College Residency Officer, maintaining responsibility for certifying in-state tuition rates for eligible students.
Monitors students with temporary/contingent residency statuses and facilitates updates when appropriate.
Assists individuals with understanding State of Ohio Residency requirements. Works with new and continuing students, gathering information to understand and evaluate their individual circumstances regarding Ohio residency and general policies and procedures.
Maintains thorough and complete understanding of the guidelines listed in the Ohio Revised and Administrative Codes related to Ohio residency eligibility.
Interprets those guidelines and relevant College and department policies and procedures to ensure compliance and determine best course of action.
Reviews incoming information and documentation for completeness, evaluates the documentation confirming satisfaction of Ohio Revised & Administrative Codes requirements making the student eligible for in-state tuition, and responds to student in a timely manner.
Displays technical competence working within the student information system, document management/workflow system, and other electronic tools.
Conducts outreach and responds to inquiries in-person, via the telephone, and electronically.
Customer Service
Provides comprehensive customer service in high volume and challenging fast-paced environment, addressing most issues on the spot and referring student to appropriate department for further assistance as necessary.
Responds to student inquiries in-person, via the telephone and electronically regarding residency and related matters such as admissions, financial aid, registration and general college policies and procedures.
Provides explanation and guidance related to State, College, and department requirements and processes.
Classroom & Community Support
Tracks all activities, evaluates their effectiveness, and recommends outreach changes and improvements.
General duties which may include updating/maintaining the Columbus State Residency website, residency application, and residency forms.
Maintains confidentiality of student records and other information.
Facilities in-person virtual presentations about residency process to campus departments, students, parents, and potential students both on and off campus.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Attends all required departmental meetings and trainings.
Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal, state, and internal regulations & procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners.
Hours may include working outside of normal workweek schedule on an as needed basis.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED
Three (3) years progressively responsible clerical experience in the area of the assigned specialized function.
*An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
State Motor Vehicle Operators License or demonstrated ability to gain access to work site(s).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical business offices. Must travel to various Columbus State campuses and sites.
