Are you looking for an exciting new role as a Specialist Reservoir Engineer? In this role, you will use simulation software and other subsurface engineering tools to plan, optimize, and forecast greenfield SAGD developments at both the pad and field level. It also supports drilling, testing, regulatory applications, and technical studies related to reservoir performance, surface design, water disposal, caprock integrity, and carbon sequestration.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience as an engineer with a focus in thermal SAGD and simulation within the oil and gas industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering (Masters or PhD preferred)
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Can independently build and calibrate thermal reservoir simulation models (SLB Intersect preferred)
  • Prior experience in reservoir development and optimization on operating or greenfield projects
  • Reservoir characterization and production forecasting using analogs, analytical, or data driven tools

Responsibilities:

  • Use SLB Intersect simulation software to support greenfield SAGD development. Example applications of simulation include but are not limited to: quantifying/managing reservoir fluid impairments, understanding regional migration of pressure and fluid, injection of non-condensable gas and solvent, coupled wellbore modeling, and geomechanical modeling
  • Create and optimize SAGD development plans at the pad and field level.
  • Provide surface design parameters with appropriate uncertainty ranges to support engineering studies
  • Create and improve SAGD forecasting tools and workflows (deterministic and probabilistic)
  • Develop winter program drilling and testing plans and support field execution
  • Conduct various analyses and studies related to water disposal, caprock, aquathermolysis, carbon sequestration, and other subsurface engineering topics
  • Support regulatory application and amendments

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
