Job Description
The Special Teams Coordinator is responsible for the organization, instruction, and execution of all special teams units while assisting with overall football operations. This position supports the competitive success of the football program through player development, strategic planning, recruiting, and strict adherence to NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coaching & Special Teams Coordination
- Plan, coordinate, and coach all special teams units (kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt return, field goal/PAT)
- Develop special teams philosophies, schemes, and weekly game plans
- Conduct position meetings, practices, and drills related to special teams
- Evaluate and develop student-athletes assigned to special teams units
- Coordinate with offensive and defensive staffs to align personnel usage and practice schedules
Game Planning & Analysis
- Prepare weekly scouting reports, opponent breakdowns, and film analysis for special teams
- Make in-game adjustments and communicate effectively with coaching staff
- Assist with video analysis and self-scout evaluations
Recruiting
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who can contribute to special teams and assigned position group(s)
- Maintain recruiting records and databases in compliance with NCAA Division II rules
- Assist with on-campus visits and recruiting events
Student-Athlete Development & Administration
- Promote academic success, leadership, and personal development of student-athletes
- Monitor academic progress, eligibility, and conduct of assigned student-athletes
- Maintain compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies
- Complete required administrative reports and documentation
Program Support & Additional Duties
- Assist with camps, clinics, fundraising, community engagement, and alumni events
- Support strength and conditioning coordination for special teams units
Game Day & Program Support
- Assist with game planning, opponent breakdowns, and film analysis
- Participate in game-day coaching and administrative responsibilities
- Support scouting reports and analytics relevant to defensive line play
Administration & Compliance
- Comply with all NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional policies
- Assist with monitoring academic progress, eligibility, and conduct of student-athletes
- Complete required documentation, reports, and administrative tasks
- Representing the football program and university in a positive and professional manner
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with summer camps, clinics, fundraising, and community engagement activities
- Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events, which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large capacity vehicle.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Playing and/or coaching experience with special teams at the collegiate or high school level
- Strong knowledge of football rules, strategies, and special teams concepts
- Understanding of NCAA Division II rules and regulations
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to travel extensively and work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards.
- State of Texas or Arkansas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment, including an acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course, as required.
- This position may be required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, in accordance with System policy and is further required to complete FERPA and HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
- Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Working in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, standing throughout the day, the ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division II or Division I level
- Successful experience as Special Teams Coordinator for a minimum of five (5) years
- Recruiting experience at the collegiate level
- Experience with video and analytics platforms (e.g., Hudl, XOS)
