The Opportunity 

Our Internal Audit team is looking to add a SOX Auditor in Calgary, Alberta.

Reporting to the Manager, SOX Compliance, the Auditor SOX Compliance will participate in testing for TC Energy’s annual SOX compliance program to support our certification that our internal control environment is designed and operating effectively. The successful candidate will have broad exposure to TC Energy’s operations and will interact with process owners across various functions as well as our external auditors. 

What you’ll do 

  • Develop a deep understanding of TC Energy’s control environment, proactively identifying opportunities for process and control improvements, with a strong focus on technology enablement
  • Develop process documentation, evaluate process and control design, and coordinate process walkthroughs 
  • Develop and execute detailed test plans and document sufficient evidence to support conclusions and meet documentation requirements 
  • Analyze process and control issues, recommend and track remediation, and assess the effectiveness of remediation activities
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize in-scope controls, seeking opportunities for improvement through technology and automation
  • Participate in the development of the annual SOX plan, including risk assessment and scoping
  • Build strong relationships and work collaboratively with members of relevant business areas, as well as Internal Audit and the external auditors
  • Consult on new initiatives, system implementations, accounting policy changes, and acquisitions/dispositions and assess the impact of the changes on internal controls 
  • Other special projects as required, including work on Internal Audits

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, accounting, or finance 
  • Minimum 4 years of SOX internal controls experience 
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), PCAOB auditing standards, COSO, and Canadian/US GAAP 
  • Demonstrated ability to assess control testing results and clearly communicate impact to stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute high quality deliverables under firm timelines
  • Proficiency with MS Office and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to make effective decisions under pressure

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Public accounting firm experience in SOX compliance and Internal Audit 
  • Experience working with audit management software (i.e. Audit Board) 
  • Experience working with and auditing processes in SAP 
  • Demonstrated experience in technology-driven process improvement, automation, or data analytics
  • Experience in IT testing is considered an asset
  • Spanish language proficiency would be beneficial
