North Bethesda, MD Full Time

Xometry (NASDAQ: XMTR) powers the industries of today and tomorrow by connecting the people with big ideas to the manufacturers who can bring them to life. Xometry’s digital marketplace gives manufacturers the critical resources they need to grow their business while also making it easy for buyers at Fortune 1000 companies to tap into global manufacturing capacity.

The Sourcing Specialist is an experienced, detail-oriented professional responsible for resolving Xometry’s most challenging manufacturing projects. This role focuses on manually coordinating and placing orders that fall outside of our standard automated sourcing workflows.

Sourcing Specialists manage complex or escalated manufacturing projects. This involves in-depth technical review, strategic problem-solving, and creative outreach to ensure successful placement with qualified manufacturing partners.

This position requires a combination of sourcing expertise, critical thinking, and strong cross-functional collaboration. Specialists work closely with suppliers, customers, engineers, and internal teams to identify solutions for unique or high-priority orders. Projects involve a variety of manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, and additive printing. Success hinges on both technical understanding and sound judgment to achieve cost, quality, and delivery goals.

Day to Day:

  • Manage a portfolio of advanced sourcing cases for orders that require detailed technical or pricing analysis and extended follow-up to get them placed with a production team.
  • Investigate root causes preventing supplier acceptance and develop targeted recovery strategies for stalled projects.
  • Review technical documentation and manufacturing drawings with our engineers, clients, or manufacturers, to validate feasibility and identify potential risks or clarifications needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design engineers, manual quoters, case managers, and sales to resolve technical or scheduling concerns.
  • Communicate directly with both suppliers and customers to clarify requirements, negotiate terms, and align expectations.
  • Maintain comprehensive case notes and documentation to ensure leadership visibility and continuity across active escalations.
  • Provide informal guidance and technical support to Sourcing Coordinators, serving as a resource for more complex or unfamiliar situations.

Skills:

  • Analytical and technically minded, with working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication, or additive manufacturing.
  • Strong sourcing, procurement, or supplier-management background, ideally in a manufacturing or engineering-related environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and basic GD&T.
  • Competence with online research and cost-validation for raw materials, finishing services, etc.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills for coordinating between multiple stakeholders.
  • Organized and self-driven, with the ability to prioritize and resolve longer-term or multi-stage sourcing cases.
  • Proficiency with Google Sheets and Docs (Salesforce experience a plus).

Qualifications:

  • 3 + years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply-chain management, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated success resolving complex supplier or production challenges.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality results under time constraints.
  • Comfortable making independent decisions within defined pricing and policy parameters.
  • Strong curiosity for manufacturing and desire to expand technical knowledge.
