About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Manager


In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor engineer roles with low to moderate complexity and less experienced managers who are responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture, for example, cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop, and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team
  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the supported product areas/products


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of Leadership experience

  • Expertise in setting vision, goals, roadmaps, OKRs for the team and coordinate resources with cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to motivate the team and lead strategic initiatives, collaborating across a large organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Project Management, Customer Engagement, People Leadership and Quality.
  • Created and presented business cases to senior leadership, involving both Strategic and Operational initiatives.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships with LOB stakeholders, technology CIO leadership, external service providers and architecture teams.
  • Good understanding of global trends and practices in Technology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT governance risks and compliance processes such as policies, control standards, and data security.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguities effectively (Technology, People, Process or Partner).
  • Ability to negotiate, influence and collaborate to build successful relationships.

  • Manage and mentor global engineering teams across mobile (iOS/Android) and web UI (React) platforms to deliver intuitive, accessible, and secure digital customer experiences.
  • Own and oversee the full SDLC – ensuring quality, accessibility, performance, security, compliance, and observability requirements are met for every release.
  • Represent engineering in product planning, portfolio prioritization, and design reviews, translating product goals into robust technical strategies.
  • Drive modern engineering practices including CI/CD, test automation, accessibility, optimizations, and secure development to ensure high-quality, scalable, and compliant solutions.
  • Hire, coach, and retain top engineering talent while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and inclusive leadership.
  • Act as a technical escalation point, removing delivery roadblocks while enabling continuous learning and experimentation in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Provide hands-on guidance in solution design, code reviews, and architectural alignment to elevate engineering quality and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with architects, platform leaders, and partner with business teams to align with Wells Fargo’s next-gen architecture vision - including adopting agentic driven banking features, cloud-native migration, micro-frontend strategy and mobile modernization.
  • Manage engineering resourcing, capacity planning, financials and performance management for a global team of engineers.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors, internal platform teams and tool providers to enhance productivity, security, and delivery speed.
  • Identify and integrate Generative AI capabilities across the software development lifecycle.

Essential Qualifications

  • Masters/bachelor’s degree in engineering with a total of 4+ years of Software Engineering experience.
  • 3+ years in management roles leading midsize (20-40) teams and managers who have application ownership and end-to-end development activities, with demonstrable success in creating and driving effective technology teams in multinational business environments.
  • 4+ years of core hands-on development experience either in one or all UI technologies like Swift UI, Kotlin, React, JavaScript, NodeJS working with respective tools (Jenkins, Hyper Execute, Playwright, Gradle, Fastlane, SonarQube)
  • Technology-oriented, experience managing products with technical complexity and interdependencies.
  • Experience in Banking domain is highly preferred with experience in managing Publicly Accessible Digital Applications.
