Job Summary: A successful candidate will serve as Supervisory Transportation Management Specialist ensuring safe and secure transportation of government-owned nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons components, special nuclear material, and other sensitive cargo. This position is located within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Assistant Deputy Administrator for Secure Transportation, Office of Secure Transportation (OST), Agent Operations Eastern Command (AOEC) in Oak Ridge TN.

Major Duties:

  • As a Supervisory Transportation Management Specialist, you will: Direct, initiate, and implement policy, and ensure policy and/or procedural compliance in the performance of air and road transportation of hazardous materials and cargos. Make decisions and recommendations that impact a broad range of transportation operations for the Command and that may have OST-wide application. Assign personnel and material resources; directs, oversees and approves mission planning and scheduling activities; assesses proficiency and training requirements, makes any required adjustments, and ensures completion. Provide the full spectrum of supervision and oversight to include hiring, training and development, promotion, recognition, performance appraisal, and discipline, for first line supervisors as well as 50-74 Nuclear Materials Couriers, who conduct the safe and secure transportation of government-owned nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons components, special nuclear material, and other sensitive cargos within the continental United States; and Provide coordination with the Command Director, the Office of Mission Operations, federal and contractor support organizations and cooperating federal, state, local, and foreign agencies.

Qualifications: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-02, NV- 03, GS-12. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Providing safe and secure transportation of government owned nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons components, special nuclear material, and other sensitive cargo as well as demonstrate comprehensive understanding of transportation laws, regulations, and policies to effectively manage complex and sensitive mission operations. Examples of Specialized Experience: Experience in managing, directing, initiating and implementing policies that directly support Transportation Safeguards Systems (TSS). Experience managing large groups of employees and direct TSS operations. Experience initiating, implementing, and oversight of policy related to TSS operational conduct. Directing, initiating, and implementing operational and training programs relative to the TSS. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
