We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Architect to join our dynamic and innovative team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and architecting complex software systems while delivering best of breed AI based data analytics capabilities in Scale.
As part of the Salesforce Tableau engineering team, You will work on multiple high-impact projects, simultaneously designing challenging data-driven platforms and solutions, ensuring the scalability, reliability, performance, and security of our products.As a key technical leader, you will shape the architecture of systems, guide engineering teams in implementing standard methodologies, and make sure our customers have an impactful and loved data analytics experience.
Your expertise will directly influence our ability to deliver high-quality products that meet business needs and employ best-of-breed AI based data analytics (BI) techniques at scale. You will work closely with Principal Architects of Tableau, to ensure proper alignment and get relevant guidance.
Your Impact:
- Architectural Design & Strategy: Be responsible for the design and definition of secure, scalable, and resilient architecture for large-scale, distributed, and high-performance systems across multiple cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.). Ensure solutions are both technically sound and aligned with customer needs, security, compliance, and business requirements.
- Data Analytics and AI focus: You will work in the field of data systems, and specifically developing amazing and lovable products that customers use to gain actionable insights on one of their most important assets - Data. There is heavy emphasis on leveraging best-of-breed AI (LLMs and more) and providing analytic agentic capabilities to our customers.
- Understand customer struggles, map and propose solutions, and advocate for their implementation and delivery, in an open and collaborative working environment with your peer architects and leaders.
- Be hands-on: write code and POCs, engage in pull requests discussions and approval, and remain close to the code, supporting the team
- High-Impact Projects: Simultaneously handle multiple complex, high-priority projects, ensuring that architectural decisions support both short-term work and long-term business objectives.
- Coordinate across teams and collaborators to maintain consistency and alignment in solution design across projects.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, guiding them in implementing secure, efficient, and scalable solutions. Develop a collaborative environment where standard methodologies are shared and followed, and where security considerations are embedded in every aspect of the development lifecycle.
- Performance, Scalability & Reliability: Lead efforts to optimize the performance and scalability of systems, identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks.
- Ensure solutions are highly available and resilient to both traffic spikes and operational failures.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with multi-functional teams—product managers, analytics and AI experts, data and backend engineers, and other stakeholders—to define, refine, and implement architectural strategies that meet business goals while maintaining a high standard of technical excellence.
- Documentation & Reporting: Create comprehensive documentation for architectural designs, decisions, and processes. Ensure clarity in reporting the status of architectural initiatives to leadership and partners.
Required Skills:
- Experience: 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in an architectural role, including substantial experience in data oriented distributed systems, with an advantage to data analytics platform experience.
- Degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Experience will be evaluated based on the core competencies for the role (e.g. extracurricular leadership roles, military experience, volunteer roles, work experience, etc.
- Expertise in architecting and building large-scale, distributed systems and microservices across.
- Mastery and hands-on experience with modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, Go).
- Strong background in designing and implementing backend data systems (e.g. SQL generators, data modeling engines, data intensive applications, complex and data-driven projects).
- Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL) and caching technologies.
- Proficient in cloud-native services, serverless architectures, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Experience in data engineering, AI/ML, or big data architectures.
- Big-corp orientation: ability and desire to work in a big-corporation environment, gaining knowledge from the vast experience of teams and leading dependencies.
- Lead and mentor multi-functional teams, fostering collaboration while ensuring alignment to guidelines and processes.
- Problem-Solving & Design Thinking with strong analytical skills, with a deep understanding of design patterns, architectural frameworks, and a data-centric approach for solving technical challenges.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and a strong understanding of Agile principles for handling multiple, concurrent projects.
- Ability to work with other architects, principal architects, and Chief Technology Officers to craft the architectural vision and roadmap for the organization
- Develops technical performance architecture that solves most advanced performance issues
- Ability to drive long-term design strategies that span multiple complex projects, deliver technical reports and performance presentations to customers and at industry events
- Ability to build an environment for clear and open discussion of all issues You involve the right people, from your team and others, to resolve critical issues
- Experience in short release cycles, the full software lifecycle. Some roles require experience on a product that was released for public consumption across multiple releases
- Participation in the team’s on-call rotation to address complex problems in real-time and keep services operational and highly available
Desired Skills:
- Experience in a big tech corp (5K+ employees) as a tech-lead or architect.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
