  • Experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot, focused on high-availability distributed systems.
  • Design and operate microservices within complex, event-driven architectures using Kafka to process transactions at scale.

With a broad remit for products ranging from Card lifecycle management and Open Banking to integration with New Payment Platform and Payment Gateways, our Payments squad works with the very latest tech to solve complex, interesting challenges at scale. As part of this team, you'll learn and grow through experimentation, enhancing existing features and building new ones, with the backing of a tight-knit team.

What you’ll own

  • Design, build, and operate reliable systems that process financial transactions at scale.
  • Deliver well-scoped features end-to-end while contributing to the quality and performance of the systems your team owns.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to build great products.
  • Maintain operational excellence by participating in a rotating on-call support roster to support systems in production 24/7.
  • Perform effective code reviews and contribute to solution design discussions with guidance from senior engineers.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Strong backend expertise in Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, or Postgres.
  • Solid understanding of engineering best practices, including Agile development, Design Patterns, and TDD.
  • Experience with microservices and event-based architectures - we use Kafka.
  • A mindset that embraces AI and new tools to adapt, learn, and grow.
  • An aptitude for identifying and managing risks, understanding that we are all leaders at Zip.
