Your Impact

Join X Lab, a small internal incubator team within Axon’s Digital Evidence Management Systems (DEMS) organization that moves fast, experiments boldly, and builds AI-powered software with startup energy and Axon scale.
As a Software Engineer, X Lab, you’ll help build and launch breakthrough AI products. You’ll work on everything from rapid prototypes to production-grade launches, experimenting with how Axon teams build, use, and scale generative AI products.

You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, design, and AI engineers to explore new directions, integrate Axon’s emerging AI capabilities, and deliver software that redefines how public safety teams work. This high-visibility team will be recognized for delivering breakthrough prototypes and hitting key milestones that shape Axon’s AI future.

Location: This role is based out of our Boston, MA office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and ship end-to-end software for AI-driven investigative and productivity tools, from prototype through early access and GA.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and AI teams to test and scale new ideas that advance Axon’s AI capabilities.
  • Help deliver Project Deep Freeze into production in 2026, ensuring it meets technical, ethical, and operational standards.
  • Experiment with internal AI productivity tools that reshape how Axon teams work and build software.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years software engineering experience (IC) with a track record of delivering impactful products end-to-end.
  • 2+ years working at a startup or corporate incubator, or in a role that involved launching new initiatives or building products from the ground up
  • 2+ years working with Golang and/or Python
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, Terraform and Kubernetes
  • Strong technical foundation across backend or full-stack development with curiosity and adaptability to experiment with emerging AI technologies.
  • Experience or interest in LLM, RAG, and/or cloud-based AI applications.
  • A creative, experimental mindset—comfortable with ambiguity, learning through iteration, and rapidly prototyping ideas.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across product, design, and AI disciplines.

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 120,750 in the lowest geographic market and USD 193,200 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
