Software Engineer II

Lawrence, Kansas Full Time

Software Engineer II – Web Platform

Do you enjoy building high-quality web experiences and the platforms behind them? As a Software Engineer II on the Web Platform team, you’ll help design and build the foundational systems and shared capabilities that support multiple products across Alarm.com. Our team enables product engineers to move faster by providing scalable, well-designed front-end architecture and templates that power the Alarm.com web ecosystem.

In this role, you’ll build modern web tools and shared platform components, collaborate closely with product and design partners, and help shape technical decisions across our web stack.  We are actively adapting and migrating features to React as part of the evolution of our platform, including breaking down a large web application into smaller, independently deployable microsites - while continuing to support existing technologies. We’re looking for strong generalist engineers who value code quality, thoughtful system design, and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain shared web components using React.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our front-end architecture, patterns, and best practices across multiple teams.
  • Support effort to split monolithic web application into smaller microsites and services, including building tooling, patterns, and guidance to help feature teams migrate successfully.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define solutions that meet both business and technical needs.
  • Participate in the full development lifecycle, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code with an emphasis on performance, accessibility, and usability.
  • Balance speed and quality, knowing when to iterate quickly and when to invest in more robust solutions.
  • Bring ideas and feedback to improve our platform, developer experience, and end-user experience.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and cross-team dependencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in software engineering, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
  • Proficiency building modern web applications with React (or equivalent experience with component-based frameworks).
  • Understanding of RESTful API integration and common authentication patterns (OAuth, JWT, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience using AI development tools as part of the software development workflow, with the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated output.
  • Experience writing and maintaining unit tests and/or integration tests.
  • Comfort working in a collaborative codebase using version control and code reviews.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with Ember.js, especially in large or long-lived applications.
  • Experience building or maintaining shared UI libraries or design systems.
  • Familiarity with front-end performance optimization and web accessibility standards.
  • Experience with backend systems, APIs, or full-stack development.
  • Familiarity with microservices or distributed systems concepts.
  • Experience improving developer tooling, build systems, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with containerized application development and deployment (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

Please note that sponsorship of new applicants for employment authorization, or any other immigration-related support, is not available for this position at this time.
