Job Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties:

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but are not limited to: Supervisory Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system Resolves staff complaints and grievances Invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests Conducts ongoing reviews and performance appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies Coordinates/tracks data related to productivity, timely provision of services, and appropriate documentation of workload Recognizes gaps in workforce competencies and ensures supervised staff who require knowledge and skill development receive the training necessary to execute their duties Provides consultation/training to internal/external stakeholders on the complex needs of Veterans with PTSD and SUD Ensures staff supervised are aware of and adhere to all current VHA directives and meet relevant accreditation standards Provides orientation and training for temporary staff/trainees working on the unit, which may include psychology or social work trainees Provides clinical supervision to unlicensed social workers working towards licensure Administrative Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to State, local, and private agencies, and universities Uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns Performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contract work as possible with various agencies Develops/maintains standard operating procedures for program Leads clinical, facility-wide process improvements to address access to and population coverage of substance use disorder treatment reflected in the Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning report and relevant hospital performance measures such as consult response, access to care, and bed occupancy numbers Identifies barriers and implements solutions to improve care coordination post-hospitalization when needed Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs Clinical Provides full range of advanced level clinical care to a complex population of patients with a wide range of clinical needs Provides comprehensive mental health and psychosocial assessment and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range of mental health issues receiving care within the Mental Health Residential Treatment Programs Demonstrates expertise in using contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for mental disorders and/or behavioral health conditions Provides education to patients and family members regarding mental and substance use disorders and best practices approaches to treatment Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the social worker, which may include individual, family, and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation Provides consultation to health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the Medical Center Develops, implements, and documents the mental health treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the social worker Completes case management tasks as needed to help Veteran break the cycle of chronic homelessness and successfully transition in to independent housing Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: Not Authorized EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-13. Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs. (a) Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility. (b) Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive. (c) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). (d) Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care. (e) Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action. (f) Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget. (g) Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations. Preferred Experience: Preferred minimum one year of experience in supervisory role, Preferred experience in mental health residential treatment, Preferred experience working with Veterans experiencing homelessness, Preferred experience providing EBPs for PTSD and/or SUD.
