Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1226000 and is part of the TN ARMY National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter).

Major Duties:

  • As a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER, WG-6610-08, you will perform overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, adjustments, and must be adjusted to close tolerances. Diagnose and identify mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons, such as, automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, rocket launchers, mortars, and other small arms and accessories. Disassemble weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. After disassembly, examine for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions. Replace barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies. Modify small weapons by replacing obsolete parts. Apply finishing agents and test fires and/or perform operational checks of arms repaired to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Apply modification work orders as required. Use hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms. Ensure the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access. May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT). Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Military Grades: E-1 through E-7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems; the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause and determine best method of correcting defects; ability to use technical manuals, tools and measuring equipment in making repairs and adjustments. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 12Months experience or training demonstrating a broad knowledge in repairing, rebuilding, modifying, and testing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and major components of weapons equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining needed repairs in weapons systems. Experience demonstrating the ability to inspect all weapons systems. Experience interpreting and applying drawings, schematics, blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
