Position Summary
The Shipping Associate is responsible for preparing, packing, and shipping finished goods via domestic LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) and parcel carriers. This role ensures all shipments are packaged securely, labeled correctly, and shipped on time to meet customer expectations while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Pack and crate products according to company standards to ensure safe transit
- Build custom crates and use appropriate packaging materials to protect fragile or high-value items
- Prepare and process domestic shipments using LTL and parcel carriers (e.g., FedEx, UPS)
- Accurately label shipments and verify shipping documentation
- Weigh, measure, and record shipment details for carrier compliance and cost accuracy
- Coordinate with shipping office or supervisors to prioritize daily shipments
- Load and stage shipments for carrier pickup
- Inspect finished goods prior to shipment to ensure quality and accuracy
- Maintain inventory of packaging materials and notify leadership of shortages
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of tools and equipment
- Keep shipping and staging areas clean and organized
- Assist with cycle counts, inventory movement, or material handling as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year of experience in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing environment is required
- 1-3 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience with LTL and parcel shipping processes strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret packing instructions, work orders, and shipping documents
- Basic computer skills; experience with shipping systems or ERP (SAP a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (occasionally more with assistance)
- Frequent standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift
- Ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or other material handling equipment (if certified)
Preferred Skills
- Experience building crates or custom packaging solutions
- Familiarity with freight class, dimensions, and shipping cost impacts
- Knowledge of basic carrier requirements for LTL and parcel shipments
