What you'll be doing:

  • Ensure the safe and compliant operation of an Upper Tier COMAH high-temperature incineration facility. Act as the Senior Authorised Person on shift while maintaining environmental and regulatory standards (including EA/IPPC compliance) and maximising plant performance.

  • Lead and develop a team of shift operators and manage the activities of wider plant chemists and maintenance personnel. Providing training, mentorship, and performance management to meet daily production targets (with a revenue impact of £100K/day) while upholding Veolia’s safety and operational values.

  • Take charge as the Site Incident Controller during emergencies, coordinating with emergency services, conducting incident investigations (NEBOSH/IOSH standards), and implementing crisis escalation procedures to ensure a rapid and effective response on a high-risk hazardous waste site.

  • Optimise waste throughput and process efficiency to align with customer requirements and site budget targets, while managing £2M in on-site stock and overseeing first-line maintenance to drive operational excellence and sustainability.

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, contractors, and senior management, to deliver performance updates, enforce QHSE compliance, and facilitate clear communication through Toolbox Talks, safety reviews, and operational reports.

What we're looking for:

Essential

  • Previous experience within the waste or chemical processing industry, including managing a plant with line management responsibilities.

  • Experience working on a COMAH-regulated site.

  • Strong skills in communication, time management, continuous improvement, and informed decision-making.

  • Competency in problem-solving tools and techniques.

Desirable

  • Relevant higher-level qualification (e.g., HNC/HND).

  • NEBOSH/IOSH qualification.
