Senior Vice President, Government Affairs

As a Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, you will drive the company’s policy objectives by cultivating strong relationships with policymakers, agencies, and trade associations at both the Federal and State level. You will oversee strategy development aligned with the company’s mission and goals, provide strategic insights for leadership, and lead a comprehensive government affairs program. You will be responsible for coalition building across the industry, managing government affairs consultants and budgets, ensuring effective internal and external messaging, representing the company at events, and participating in lobbying activities as defined by the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007. This leader also grows the business function by developing leaders and team members to be successful strategic ambassadors who propel company initiatives.

About the role

  • Design and lead an effective government affairs program that advances the company's strategic direction and objectives
  • Work closely with business partners to develop and refine effective and persuasive messaging related to government affairs activities both internally and externally
  • Drive and manage the strategies that the team establishes to develop, maintain, and improve relationships with policymakers, relevant agencies, regulators, lawmakers, trade associations, and/or other stakeholders to advance the company's policy priorities
  • Manage the development and implementation of strategies that support the organization’s mission, values and business priorities
  • Identify solutions and analyze perspectives to inform leadership’s decision-making, the company's strategic direction, and overall messaging
  • Build coalitions across the industry and other areas related to business priorities  
  • Manage government affairs consultants as well as political and public affairs budgets
  • Mentor and develop leaders and team members to be effective advocates who advance the company’s priorities
  • Represent the company in various events, as appropriate 
  • Participate in “lobbying activities” as defined under the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007
  • Drive cross-functional alignment by influencing decision-making across the organization
  • Proactively assess potential risks and implement plans to ensure business success
  • Identify roadblocks preventing success of strategic themes or objectives and work with appropriate stakeholders to find resolutions

About you

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12 years of experience in public policy, government, government affairs, or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in the financial services industry
  • 5 years of experience in government with a legislature or regulatory body or other demonstrable experience with relevance to government and other stakeholders  
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, communications, law, or a related field
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Expert communication and presentation skills with the ability to tailor written and oral communications to specific audiences, while ensuring stakeholder cooperation, coordination of projects, and management of partnerships
  • Extensive knowledge of the federal and state government institutions and agencies and their processes and functions
  • Deep knowledge and network within the housing, banking, and financial services policy landscape
  • Advanced strategic planning ability, considering short- and long-term implications of initiatives 
  • Project management experience   
  • Experience working with industry trade associations 
  • Proven expertise in developing strategic solutions and managing critical challenges in complex political environments 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in political science, public policy, communications, law, or a related field or a Juris Doctor degree (JD)

The position may also be eligible for an annual bonus, incentives, and other employment-related benefits including, but not limited to, medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K retirement plan, and paid-time off.
