POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and being a key member of the COO senior leadership team, the Senior Vice President, Advisory Services and Business Strategy has full P&L accountability for the Advisory Services line of business, which encompasses 200 employees (in addition to 450 external consultants) and delivers more than 1500 mandates annually.
The SVP Advisory Services and Business Strategy drives the strategic direction, governance and performance of the Advisory Services line of business, ensuring the relevance of the offer and the impact of the services delivered on the Canadian businesses.
Additionally, the SVP Advisory Services and Business Strategy works closely with the COO to define and shape the key elements of the COO function’s strategic agenda, providing thought leadership and driving the development of new strategic directions. In this capacity, the role partners extensively with all COO leaders, the corporate strategy team and functional partners across the organization to ensure alignment and execution of strategic priorities.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Advisory Services
- Drive the evolution of the Advisory Services line of business to ensure alignment with entrepreneurs’ changing needs and the rapidly evolving economic landscape, maximizing impact on entrepreneurs’ productivity and growth by:
Fully integrating BDC’s renewed strategy;
Embedding the advisory component more deeply into BDC’s overall offer and operating model;
Strengthening BDC’s ability to reach and drive the success and growth of medium to large entrepreneurs.
- Transform the Advisory Services model to leverage AI capabilities, ensuring BDC’s offer and delivery approach remain relevant and differentiated for Canadian entrepreneurs.
- Lead and oversee the business development and delivery of BDC’s Advisory Services to achieve the business line’s ambitions for impact, growth and profitability.
- Enhance the integration of Advisory Services within the overall BDC’s portfolio and operating model through close collaboration with Financing regional leaders and BDC Capital leadership.
Business Strategy
- Enhance the COO team’s strategic agility to respond to shifting market dynamics, organizational goals and client needs by partnering with the COO and business leaders to shape and refine strategies across the Financing, Growth & Transition Capital, Wholesale and Advisory Services divisions.
- Oversee the strategic initiatives and projects for the COO function.
- Assist the COO in preparing strategic presentations and contributing to the annual corporate plan for the Senior Management Committee, Board of Directors and other key committees, in collaboration with other departments.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 15 years of relevant experience with progressive executive responsibilities in advisory services and/or business management.
- At least 5 years of P&L management experience.
- Experience in financial services is an asset.
- Demonstrated operational leadership of large, geographically dispersed teams.
- Familiarity with AI concepts and a strong willingness to deepen knowledge of their application in advisory services.
- Experience developing and implementing corporate strategy and transformation programs in large organisation.
- Ability to lead and implement change across business lines.
- Ability to operate well in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
- Pragmatic approach to consistently apply practical, solution-focused methods to address complex challenges while balancing risk, resources and organizational priorities.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment, collaboration and successful project outcomes.
- Track-record of coaching and mentoring team members in their professional development.
- Fully bilingual in French and English, both verbal and written.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
