Senior Value Engineer

Vanderlande is seeking a new Value Engineer to drive Value Engineering initiatives across our product development and lifecycle management activities. You will be part of the Demand Management Technology & Solutions domain, within the broader Procurement department.

As Value Engineer, you will develop and run projects to foster design excellence and cost efficiency, optimizing and enhancing our product development efforts, aligning them with business and procurement needs.  

Our global procurement organization enables our projects and business functions by maximizing value and minimizing risks via the procurement of goods and services in the most smart, cost-effective and sustainable way. We ensure a resilient and competitive supplier ecosystem and aim to advance towards best-in-class practices, and ensure the organization is efficient, effective, and future-proof. Furthermore, our procurement organization plays an important role in Vanderlande's transformation from an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) to a Configure-to-Order (CTO) business model. This new model aims at enhancing value for its customers through increased standardization, scalability, and more competitive solutions. 

What will you be doing? 

As a Value Engineer, you will lead Value Engineering projects for new product introductions, improvements, and relocations, focusing on maximizing customer value and minimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). You will organize Value Engineering workshops to foster cross-departmental collaboration, oversee should-cost modelling analysis, support make vs. buy decisions, and propose cost avoidance strategies.  

Responsibilities 

  • Upon request, initiate and manage Value Engineering projects supporting new product introduction, product improvement, and relocation initiatives, with a focus on achieving customer value while minimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), leveraging our proven value engineering methodologies 
  • Oversee should-cost modelling analysis (executed by Procurement Cost Analyst) focusing on procurement-related parameters and assessing the impact of product specifications on procurement costs 
  • Propose cost avoidance strategies from a procurement perspective, support make vs. buy decisions, compare costs with competitors 
  • Evaluate and challenge price quotes, and effectively communicate should-cost calculations to suppliers to support price negotiations 
  • Organize and lead cross-functional, cross-site Value Engineering workshops to ideate and scope activities, fostering collaboration among departments 
  • Cooperate with departments and leaders (Technology, Engineering, Service, Supply Chain, Finance) to secure budgets and resources for Value Engineering projects, and effectively manage project budgets and resources 
  • Maintain a funnel and pipeline of Value Engineering activities, proactively identifying issues, concerns and addressing challenges 
  • Train and educate internal stakeholders on Value Engineering methodologies and best practices 

What do we ask from you? 

To be successful in this role, you should have: 

  • Extensive experience (5 - 10 years) with program and project management in high tech organizations and Research and Development/Technology departments. 
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Value Engineering, Product Development, and/or Design for Excellence is preferred, potentially validated through a certification (e.g., SAVE International, DFSS, Lean Six Sigma) 
  • Strong analytical skills to assess product designs and leverage cost models in order to identify opportunities for cost reduction and alignment with strategic goals 
  • Experience in developing methodologies and documentation to ensure high-quality and standardized value engineering activities 
  • Leadership and ability to scope and manage complex projects from inception to completion  
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to deliver impactful presentations to various audiences and confidently interact with senior leadership, including Board members 
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders 
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 25% of the time 
  • A background in electrical design or an interest in developing skills in this field is a plus.

Our Demand Management Technology & Solutions team at Vanderlande consists of specialized professionals providing procurement expertise throughout the product lifecycle, from development to improvements. Our global team collaborates closely with supply management, procurement centers of excellence, R&D, sales, and customer centers to develop strategies that anticipate R&D needs, enhance cost efficiency, and optimize product design.

We play a crucial role in ensuring product specifications align with the new Configure-to-Order (CTO) business model, leveraging innovative supplier technologies to maximize procurement value in our R&D activities. This position offers a competitive salary range of € 6.000 to € 7.400 gross per month (excluding 8% holiday allowance). Through exceeding performance expectations, you even have the possibility to grow outside this scale.
