This role involves working on project- and tender-specific activities related to international T&D substation telecom systems, collaborating with a skilled engineering team. The Sr. Telecom Engineer will apply theoretical and practical knowledge to perform assigned tasks using established solutions and engineering methodologies.
The position will be responsible for providing telecom system designs across multiple engineering projects within the GETS. The selected candidate will complete tasks for multiple medium-sized projects or contribute to key portions of larger projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness, compliance with contract requirements, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
What will you do?
- Preparation of Telecom system design, architecture diagrams, and engineering deliverables.
- Domain knowledge and Develop Bill of Material (BoM) for telecom equipment such as IP Telephony, CCTV, Access Control System, Radio system, Switches, Routers, Multiplexers, FO systems, Tele protection, RTUs, and NMS.
- Design telecom networks supporting substation protection, SCADA, automation, and voice/data communication.
- Prepare telecom cable schedules, rack layouts, termination diagrams, interconnection diagrams, Structured cabling system and panel GA drawings.
- Validate Vendor Proposals during bid and prepare Technical Bid Evaluation.
- Evaluate Vendor Engineering Deliverables, Data sheets, FAT Procedures, SAT Procedures during detail engineering
- Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques and procedures to perform engineering assignments. Provides technical support for the installation and commissioning activities. Prepares project documentation within one’s scope of deliverables.
- Ensure complete integration with Protection & Control panels and Substation Control Systems SCS / SAS / SCADA.
- Develop the tender engineering deliverable in short time with quality.
- Secure the completeness of the assigned packages and correct function of the resulting Telecom system.
- Confirm the engineering is developed, taken into consideration the complete information and all inter discipline checks has been conducted with civil, electrical, and protection teams, the results are documented in the project specific storage area.
- Solves problems that appear during engineering development.
- Focus on cost-efficient system solutions
- Report and keep records for all engineering changes. Cooperate with the engineering team and agree on the project specific impacts, caused by the changes.
- Ensure compliance with Linxon and Client engineering guidelines, standards and quality across the complete engineering process.
- Creates work plans and cost estimates in own area of responsibility.
- Co-ordinates clarify with engineers, sub-contractors and supplier’s technical issues (within the assigned scope of work) and technical interfaces.
- Collaborate with the site team, attend site during construction phase if necessary.
- Contribute to the risk & opportunity register, by communicating observations.
- Prepare all technical documentation for the equipment specification as input to the purchase requisitions
- Contribute to the Up-to-date design issue log
- Safety - Understand and follow Linxon OHS procedures and guidelines
- Participate at design reviews.
- Provide input for close out report and lessons learned, and follow/review lessons learned for next projects
Experience, Education and other Skills Required:
- 15+ years of experience in substation design with focus on Telecom Equipment expertise and overall system design.
- Bachelor’s Degree / master’s degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Sound knowledge on telecom engineering aspects of AIS & GIS transmission and distribution substation up to 500kV.
- Wide knowledge on ANSI / IEEE standards is preferred.
- Knowledge on IEC, IEEE standards of telecom engineering in the following area is desirable.
- Tele protection systems (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens)
- SDH/PDH/MPLS/DWDM communication equipment
- SCADA communication protocols (IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3)
- Fiber optic communication systems (OPGW/ADSS/FO cable)
- PABX/IP phone systems, CCTV, access control, PAGA, FAS
- Understanding of CAD / CAE applications and tools.
- Understanding of electronic records management systems.
- High attention to detail and quality.
- Has sufficient exposure in the following equipment coordination & integration
- Looking for Telecom engineer who has wide experience in the telecom system of AIS/GIS projects in Europe/UK
