Job Summary
As a Garment Technologist you will be responsible for assessing garment quality, fitting, and performance ensuring they meet the required standards. You will work closely with our design and production teams, providing technical expertise and advice on garment construction, grading, and fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Review design sketches and specifications for feasibility, risk assess fabric against design styling.
- Provide technical input to designers and UK Technologist on garment designs, specifications, and construction methods to ensure feasibility concerning materials, costs, and production techniques in accordance with customer minimum makes and safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer minimum makes, product safety and legality regulations.
- Test the quality, fit, and performance of garments.
- Develop and implement golden rules for construction/ manufacturing methods for specific styling details according to customer requirements.
- Take ownership, review, and approve fit samples.
- Document garment specifications, fitting comments, and pattern alterations. Effectively communicate all changes to all relevant parties.
- Conducting fit sessions and provide clear direction for amendments.
- Preparing technical packs for manufacturers, which include detailed instructions on garment construction, materials, measurements, and finishing details Working with pattern cutters and graders to resolve any fit or construction issues.
- Train vendor sample room staff on garment specifications, required garment construction (minimum makes), samples quality control procedures, customer quality and manufacturing requirements.
- Conduct regular sample room visits for sample quality checks and to maintain strong working relationships with vendors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams within LF including design, merchandising, sourcing and UK teams to meet product objectives.
- Act like an extension of the UK Garment Technologist in sourcing country
- Updating KPI and maintaining up to date customer PLM (product lifecycle management systems)
- Take part in projects as assigned by the direct line manager (i.e. customer sealing empowering)
Operational Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Pattern & Garment construction/Risk Assessment/ Fabric & Garment testing/ Fit & Grading.
- Ability to understanding and interpret design specifications and technical packs.
- Ability to fit and seal a product on the stand, then translate in clear and concise fit comments.
- Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, external teams, and suppliers.
- In depth knowledge of CAD software for pattern development and familiar with 3D virtual prototyping tools
- Detail-oriented mindset, a good eye for quality and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, Fashion Technology, Textile Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Working Experience in the relevant field min 5 years
- Proven work experience as a Garment Technologies or in a similar role
- Strong product/ fitting/fabric knowledge.
- Experience working with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to fit, quality, and sustainability.
- Excellent command of English and Mandarin
- Literate on MS office and PLM software
- Open to occasional travelling
