The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.
The Opportunity
Allegro is seeking a highly analytical and hands-on Failure Analysis (FA) Technician to join our dedicated Quality team. In this critical role, you will be a technical detective, responsible for uncovering the root cause of failures in products returned from customers or flagged during manufacturing. You will utilize a state-of-the-art laboratory filled with advanced analytical equipment to de-process and inspect devices at a microscopic level. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technical professional who is passionate about problem-solving and wants to directly contribute to the continuous improvement of our product quality and reliability.
What You Will Do
Perform Hands-On Failure Analysis: Execute a variety of non-destructive and destructive failure analysis techniques. This includes sample preparation (lead rework, soldering, PCB extraction) and operating a wide range of FA equipment such as microscopes, X-ray, acoustic microscopy (SAM), SEM/EDX, and chemical/laser/mechanical decapsulation tools.
Conduct Electrical & Physical Characterization: Operate electrical bench test instruments (curve tracer, multi-temp testers) to verify failures. Use your skills in micro-sectioning, polishing, and parallel lapping to physically inspect the internal components of a device.
Investigate & Collaborate: Review and understand customer complaints to prepare a thorough FA plan. Interact directly with Quality, Applications, Test, and Design Engineers to address concerns and ensure an effective and efficient investigation. You will provide intermediate interpretation of ATE and bench test results to help correlate findings.
Document & Report Findings: Generate, review, and publish clear and comprehensive Failure Analysis reports to communicate your findings to stakeholders. Meticulously maintain all document records, including ETQ and other FA databases.
Manage Laboratory Operations: Support the care and maintenance of FA lab equipment through PM and calibration. Assist in managing consumables and supplies. You will also oversee general administrative functions like shipment tracking, status reporting, and sample archiving.
Drive Continuous Improvement: Support the evaluation and development of new FA procedures and systems. Assist in creating training manuals and materials to enhance the team's capabilities.
What Will You Bring?
Primary Requirement: A graduate of Electrical or Electronics Technology or an equivalent technical course.
Essential Skills: Strong knowledge in operating electrical instruments and bench testing tools (Power supply, multimeter, signal generator, oscilloscope, I/V curve trace tester).
Preferred Experience (Optional but a strong advantage):
Intermediate experience in Semiconductor Failure Analysis, knowing the principles and operation of CSAM, X-RAY, SEM/EDX, and chemical/mechanical sample preparation.
A background in the semiconductor industry with an understanding of Assembly, IC fabrication, and testing processes.
Familiarity with fault isolation techniques (e.g., Emission microscopy, thermal analysis).
Core Competencies:
Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, photo-editing).
Ability to interpret ATE results and write clear technical reports.
