This role will work closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders across the country, to develop and maintain effective relationships to deliver quality outcomes.

This role provides the successful incumbent to support key asset management strategies to reduce lifecycle costs whilst ensuring the RAN Minor Vessel Fleet maintain required availability through the management of technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Author system maintenance and operator technical publications for electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment.
  • Review and edit documents from technical writer peers and other team members.
  • Work closely with Discipline Engineers to develop Operator, Maintenance and Technical Equipment Manuals documentation.
  • Assist in preparation of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) documentation and plans.
  • Validate documentation against the product.
  • Follow relevant project review and approval processes

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Technical background (maintainer/engineering) is highly desirable
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in technical writing in manufacturing, technology, engineering or defence industries.
  • Excellent communication skills, including a well-demonstrated ability to write in a clear, concise and structured way
  • Familiar with best practice and trends in Technical Writing in particular, as implemented in the Defence industry.
  • Broad experience with Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in communicating with parties within and outside of own work area, as well as parties external to the organisation (e.g. customers, vendors etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience in the development and production of Technical Publications, specifically DEF(AUST) 5629C Production of Military Technical Manuals, DEF (AUST) 5000-Vol 02 RAN Technical Publication Requirements and ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English.
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a NV1 Security clearance as needed. Eligibility can be found at https://www.agsva.gov.au/applicants/eligibility-suitability
