ISS STOXX is seeking a Senior Tax Operations Associate to support both Direct and Indirect Tax activities within the North America Finance Team. This role reports to the North America Tax Manager and works closely with the global ISS STOXX Tax Team. The Associate will play a key role in tax reporting, tax provision support, compliance, and indirect tax filings for US and Canadian legal entities.
Assist with preparation and coordination of federal, state, and local income tax returns for the US and Canada.
Support quarterly and annual tax provision processes, including data collection, workpaper preparation, and input validation.
Perform monthly tax account reconciliations and assist with tax provision journal entries.
Help maintain the direct tax filing calendar and ensure timely submissions.
Support income tax audits through document collection and issue resolution.
Assist with preparation and filing of indirect tax returns (sales & use, GST/HST, business license, franchise, and property taxes).
Prepare indirect tax journal entries within SAP.
Support maintenance and use of Vertex, including rate updates and return processing.
Respond to tax authority notices and assist in resolving inquiries.
Provide support during indirect tax audits.
Maintain and update tax policies, procedures, and documentation.
Monitor changes in tax laws and help assess business impacts.
Perform basic tax research and summarize findings for the tax team.
Support tax payment processing, tracking, and recordkeeping.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to address tax‑related questions.
Ensure accurate, organized, and compliant tax documentation.
3–5 years of experience in direct or indirect tax.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Strong understanding of tax concepts and willingness to grow in both direct and indirect tax.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Excel.
Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with tax research tools.
Knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP tax concepts.
Experience with SAP, Vertex, or similar ERP/tax systems.
Exposure to tax audits or tax technology tools.
Interest in developing toward more senior tax roles.
Rockville, MD: Located in the vibrant King Farm community, convenient access to transit (1 mile from Shady Grove Red Line), dining, green spaces with free parking, and access to an onsite gym.
Base salary: The Rockville, MD expected base pay range is $80,000- $95,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and level of education.
The role is bonus or sales incentive eligible.
